The last time I saw the GI doc he sent me home with a 3 month supply of Flagyl and Cipro, so now that I'm pretty sure I have no good gut flora left, I started taking Probiotics, but how much should I be taking? I don't see the doc again for another couple of weeks. The bottle says 1-3 caplets every 4-6 hours, is that overkill? I have been taking 1 caplet a couple of hours after each dose of antibiotics.

Don't know. My personal experience varies on probiotic brands. I don't think it is very easy to have too much probiotics; in my case, I might start to get noticeably harder stools that are small and round in appearance--if that's not tmi. Cheaper brands tend to only work for a day or so and my BMs smell like sour milk slightly.

I usually take 3 caps, twice a day, on an empty stomach--generally these are 5 billion per cap (lately it's been Primal Defense Ultra or Jarrow EPS). As for antibiotic counteractivity, not sure but upping it to three times a day probably wouldn't hurt.

I also think it depends on how you eat otherwise - that should regulate your intake of the drug.
