I participated in the CCFA Baltimore Take Steps walk on Saturday, and I was able to do the whole walk! It was only about 3 miles, but I am still very proud of myself.
I was diagnosed this past February and was put on Pred and Pentasa. I had been feeling pretty good until about 2 weeks ago. I had to admit to myself last week that I was in a full blown flare. I knew the walk was Saturday and was worried if I wouldn't be able to do it. I felt pretty crappy, but with the support of my amazing boyfriend, I completed the whole walk!
I was able to raise $525 (way less than I wanted, but better than nothing! Especially for a newbie.). My boyfriend is already planning for next year's walk. He wants to create a team and ask his and my company for matching donations. I was amazed at how enthusiastic he became after participating. ($100 of the $525 came from him, so I guess he was enthusiastic already.)
This disease is so new to both of us. I think meeting and walking with other sufferers and their support teams helped us both.
Even though the walk is over, you can still donate: online.ccfa.org/site/TR/Walk/Chapter-MarylandSouthernDelaware?px=2075181&pg=personal&fr_id=1767
(I know. Shameless. But next year is a ways away, so I can't help but keep asking for donations while I can!)
