I have my annual appointment with my eye doctor next Tuesday and my first appointment with the GI doctor on Thursday. Is there anything specific I should ask my eye doctor to look for or any questions I should ask him that could help with a possible diagnosis?

I had my 1st GI apt on Monday...he thinks it is IBD and I have a colonoscopy scheduled for Friday. I told him I was getting really bad headaches and they hurt my right eye so he suggested I see an optometrist to check for inflammation in my eyes...I go there Thursday, so I can update ya then if I find out anything worth knowing!

You'd want to make sure to see an Ophthamologist and NOT an optometrist. The latter does not have a medical degree.

Def mention to him that you have IBD!

Good luck, hope you can find a resolution to your eye issues.

My eye problems are one of my biggest signals that I'm going into a flare. However, my eye doc and even my one GI (I'm working with a few now) are not convinced they are related....my eyes get so bad that I have to get a "contact bandaid". Oh it's a mess. I have prior injuries to both of my eyes - and when I have a flare, the swelling in my eyes along with the dehydration from a flare, causes my old injuries to rip open. OUCHY.

So I don't know if there's anything they can look for specifically. I have to use special oinments in my eyes at night and drops during the day.

I started getting the headaches and eye pain about two weeks before my big flare. It was the worst headache I have ever had and behind the right eye was the worst part, during the headaches I would get blurred vision but only in the right eye and it was VERY sensitive to light. Luckily I haven't had one in a few weeks

There is a condition that effects your eyes and is linked to Crohn's - kind of like PSC and the liver.

I also have had many headaches, and at times just behind the left eye. I went to the optometrist, in a way, I thought he would say there's something wrong with my eyes other then that I'm short sighted. There isn't, but I'm on prednisone, and this can cause pressure apparently. I think most the headaches, besides it being one of the major side effects of prednisone, is candida, in part dehydration, then sometimes if Iv had less sugar, and sometimes low blood pressure. But prednisone can cause probs on it's own, and eye problems are common in crohns.
