I'm a little curious - I've been spending the last couple of days reading others' posts. I do have a lot of the same symptoms with this current flare, but I'm wondering why I don't have the diarrhea problem that so many here seem to have experienced. I do have it occasionally (usually after drinking alcohol) but not to the extent that others seem to. I have had more problems with constipation. I do take vicodin for pain and up until a couple of days ago was eating a lot of fiber. Could that be the reason?

The Vicodin will definitely cause constipation. I'm prescribed Co-dydramol and get constipated whenever I'm on it but find I'm very loose when I don't take it.

A high fiber intake could be a contributing factor. Medication can also do the same. The first few days of prednisone usually backs me up, after that it's smooth sailing :p .

However, while less common, understand there are some people with IBD who actually do experience constipation instead of diarrhea. Have you always experienced constipation instead of diarrhea during a flare?

:poo:This is only my second flare, and my last was eighteen years ago. I do remember though that at that time, I did not have much trouble with diarrhea either. I've always tended more toward constipation. Oddly, lately when I drink alcohol at all, I experience both vomiting during the night and then diarrhea the next morning.

I've had Crohn's flare ups since I was 11 years old and I have never experienced diarrhoea with them, have always tended towards constipation. I've just had surgery a little over a month ago and this is the first time in my 10 years of Crohns that I've experienced diarrhoea. Every one is different, your disease might present more like mine than a "typical" crohns case but nothing to worry about.

thanks, carlysy. I was starting to wonder if even my Crohn's was dysfunctional! I started an elimination diet this week and now I'm hardly going at all, starting to get concerned that I might be getting even more constipated. I can't imagine that that will help with my symptoms. Sometimes I feel like I have to go but then.... nothing.:poo:
