Has anyone who has had surgery experienced a muffin top above your incision? I had lost over 55 lbs within a year. I went to the doctor and he was happy with the weight loss. I told him I wasn't trying. I kept having pain and they did an MRI. Finally a month later I had a fever and within 6 days they admitted me to the hospital and prepped me for surgery. The surgery went well. I had a 70% blockage and they took out 11 inches of intestine. It's been a little over a year. My incision looks great, I feel great and I restarted my Cimzia injections about 3 months after my surgery. I joined a gym within 4 months and try to go at least 2 times a week. But my problem is that I now am gaining weight. I have gained about 32 lbs back and I have a muffin top above my incision. Any suggestions? I see all kinds of abdominal exercises but it's not as easy as it looks. I know I'm probably healed inside but as soon as I do crunches and it hurts, I'm concerned I will bust my guts open. Any suggestions?

I imagine everyone who's had abdominal surgery has feared bursting their incision. But, if it's been a year now, you should be fine to do all kinds of exercise and physical activity. I had open surgery in October and have just started exercising again. It's slow going; sometimes I get sharp pains when I twist a certain way - in which case I stop doing that move immediately - but it feels good to get back into a healthy routine.

My advice is to avoid crunches and do planking exercises instead. These work out your abdominal muscles better than crunches do and are less painful to do, in my opinion.

You should also get in some cardio and weights. Toning your body overall will help with reducing belly fat.

I've also read that planking is great for toning the stomach , Yoga might also be an option, I'm planning on starting Yoga once I've healed enough.
