Does anyone have any good methods of reducing pain when someone is having a flare but doesn't need to go to the ER?

My husband is currently on 60 mg of prednisone but still wakes up with pain and pressure in his abdomen at night. Our doc hasn't really given us info on how to manage non-extreme but still frightening pain.

This is not urgent. We are just wondering.

:)

More info might help. Do you think it is gas pain? Something as simple as Gasex tabs could help. But there can be lots of reasons for pain. Is your doc a gastroenterologist? Really should run this by one of them.
Tylenol #3 helps a lot me with pain but you should check with Dr. first.
BTW, 60mg Pred drives me up the wall. He is lucky if he is able to sleep!

Hello and welcome. Doctors dont like to prescribe pain meds for crohns patients. A heating pad is sometimes helpful or a warm bath. If the pain gets worse or heating pans and baths dont help I would suggest a call to the doctor. Also tylenol is ok to take. I hope you husband gets to feeling better :)

Thank you both so much. I agree that he is SO lucky the pred is not making him nuts!!! We are going to call the doc today, she is a GI. But the advice about gasx, pain meds and a heating pad is good for us......we know what to do in an emergency but not always when things are more mild.

Thank you again for your help and I hope you both are feeling ok these days.

I know in Canada we can, but the US might too, and that is if you go to the pharmacy and speak to a pharmacist personally, tell them he is in quite a bit of pain and you can't get to the doctor yet. They can give you Tylenol1. It's a bit stronger than Tylenol extra strength and has codeine in it so that could help him with sleeping.
