Does Entocort treat the entire colon or only the TI and ascending colon?

Thank you!!

Hiya Jill

Entocort treats the small intestine called the ileum and/or part of the large intestine called the ascending colon.

Thanks, Joan. I thought so. This bums me out because my Crohn's is in my terminal ileum, but also my rectum. So, I guess it wouldn't do the trick for me. :(

my problem is low as well and entocort did nothing for me. try a course of prednisone itll hopefully heal you up

Thanks, Bob. Yeah, I think I may need to do that. Like many others, I am just concerned about the serious side effects. Also, I have read on here people becoming dependent on them, because once they start weaning off, the symptoms come right back. Any suggestions on how that can be avoided?

Hiya Jill

not neccessarily so. I was on Prednisolone for nearly 11 months last year, it healed my infection good style. I did have problems when I hit 20mg, it hadn't finished with me! So we upped it to 30mg for another month then tapered. I finished successfully. I did have some side effects, but these were a small price to pay for being healed. I just put up with them! I didn't end up dependent on Pred, and wouldn't hesitate to take them again if the need arises.
The dosage depends on the severity, I had to start on 60mg cos I was infected.
And now I have no remaining effects, all gone, and also I'm in remission.
If your pain is more wide spread then Entocort can't reach it, Pred would, try it, if you don't like it, come off (wean first tho!)
If I flare up with diarrhea etc, I pop some Entocort to maintain, it always works in my TI.
Discuss your options with the doc
good luck

Thanks, Joan! I can deal with the common side effects, though I am not thrilled about them, of course. I am more concerned of the long term side effects, but I believe those shouldn't be a problem if not used long term. However, like you said, I don't believe I am that severe, so I am hoping I can start on a lower dose and for a shorter course. But I think I need to do something soon to nip this in the bud before it gets any worse!

Yes Jill, that's it! Nip it in the bud!
I'm sure Pred has caused problems in the long term for people, I dunno, but it is a bone robber! So take extra calcium, and I'm sure a short course will suffice!
