I'm looking for something to use as a nice filler with meals. Obviously in mid-flare where I am I can't do bread, pasta, etc. Does anyone know if quinoa is okay to eat during a flare?

It will depend on how you tolerate it. Everyone is so different, the best you can do is make it and try and see what happens.

It led to a very, very bad night for me once but everyone is different and it was a few days in the fridge when I ate it which may have not helped matters. I stick with organic white rice now.

hbrekkaas - I will have to try it (small amount!) and see what happens.
Trevor - any issues with the rice during a flare?

I find quinoa to be quite torturous. I don't digest it at all, so I pass it whole and it irritates the heck out of my fistulas.

okay, so I think I'll skip trying the quinoa! I was hoping it would work but as it is a seed I wasn't sure. Thought maybe the cooking would soften it up enough to eat.

White rice and baked salmon with gluten-free soy sauce is my 'safe' food. No matter how sick I am I always seem to be able to eat and digest that easily and get some carbs/protien/salt into my body.

Good luck :)

I do think after reading a lot of posts on this forum that I'm going to try white rice. I really do miss having a 'filler' food with meals! I wish I liked salmon, everything I've read says that it's very good and healthy. I just haven't had it that I liked it at all.
