Hi! I've been posting over on the parent board re: my daughter's confusing crohns/infection mystery and as luck would have it last Friday my mom who has severe UC was admitted to the hospital for uncontrolled bleeding despite 6mos of Remicade and 40mg prednisone daily. They were ready to remove her colon that day but IV steroids helped enough to buy her a little time for them to offer Simponi (golimumab) with a 50% chance of working before going straight to a pouch (if possible) or colostomy. I asked about Entyvio (vedolizumab) which was just approved May 20 I think but they won't try that yet as it is so so new and Simponi is a year or two older. I'm looking for anyone with experience on Simponi and anyone who has had entire colon removed and if you're glad you did it...wish you did it sooner or should have waited. I'm concerned about increased post op complications from being on steroids and biologics prior to surgery too. We meet with surgeon Thurs am. Think the stress of the sudden onset and 2 weeks in hosp with my daughter sent my mom into a bad flare that she can't get out of.
