Ok :sign0085:

48 hours after remicade
DS has a single blister on the inside of his left palm by the pinky knuckle.
I know there is a type of eczema with remicade for the hand and feet (rare)

http://www.skinsight.com/adult/dyshidroticDermatitis.htm

So far only one blister
but treatment is methotrexate - which he stopped ( he is due friday)
topical steroids or in severe cases oral steroids.
HE is currently on steroids (20 mg pred).:ymad:
I am suppose to wean on Friday to 15 mg.:yfaint:

So now I have to see if it gets worse and email the rheumo/gi/allergy plus 2nd opinion place and it is going to be the weekend.

This so needs to stop.

Any one else ever have this????
What did you do?

Thanks

MLP, I feel for you. Grace is also one of those kids if anything rare is going to happen to then it will be her. Sorry no advice just hugs.

MLP, I hope nothing more comes from the blister! ... that it's just coincidence!!!! Thinking of you!!! :ghug:

Don't forget to also ask on the Remicade subforum...

OMGosh! Are you serious?! It is as if he is reading the book and just doing this to keep you hopping...doesn't want you to get bored.

Anyway, no blisters on the hands or feet but O got blisters on her neck and shoulders and derm said it was due to Remicade and he gave her a topical steroid but it didn't tackle them too quickly...they are very slowly going away. I don't know if they are the same thing.....

Good Luck...Hang in there...how is he feeling?

Has he gotten any more blisters?

Is there a particular reason you think the Remicade caused the blister? Did your doctor or a nurse warn you to watch for blisters? Is it near the infusion site?

I have never heard of blisters being something to watch for and it's not listed anywhere in the prescribing information.

If he develops a rash, then that may be a reaction, especially if there's also fever, muscle aches, flu-like symptoms, swollen joints. That definitely merits a call to the doctor.

No advice here sorry. Hope it was just a one off. I know what it's like for your heart to sink when you notice something else wrong!

Blisters after any medication (even over the counter) can be a sign of a very serious allergic reaction called Stevens johnson syndrome. This happened to Caitlyn on imuran. Please report it to the doctor right away. Has there been any more blisters comming out?

No help here I hope it is a one off! C had a blister come up on his lips about an hour after an infusion I called the gi nurse because it came on so quickly and she said to give him benedryl and if he had any more symptoms go to ER but she really felt it wasn't anything to be concerned about. So we gave the benedryl and litterally within 10 minutes it was gone. Probably doesn't relate to your little ones blister on his hand but I hope it resolves quickly!

I get the odd blister here and there, and have had issues with eczema (possibly drug-induced)...BUT - the rash has been goin gaway, more and more, and the blisters I get on my hands and feet now and then aren't that bad - definitely NOT enough to put me off Remicade!

The big thing is to have something on hand to take care of them if/when they pop up - I have a cream called Clobetasol that really works wonders - be cautioned though it is a STRONG steroid cream, and you can only use it for a week or two before taking a break as it will thin out the skin. I usually need only one or two 'doses' for things to get back under control now though.

SO for those you playing the home game....

Allergy said it was a rare allergic type reaction and there may the possibility that we "may have to stop remicade" For now he is ok with the watch and see approach.

Gi is basically not happy about the blister. He has given Ds until Monday for it to be gone. If it is still there or gets worse (bigger/ multiples)then he wants DS seen by someone ( GI/Rheumo/allergy /ped) just any MD at this point.
Fortunately we have a follow-up with GI already schedule for Tuesday so he can be seen.

Of course the blister is STILL there this evening bigger than this morning but not last night. No other ones.
Remind me how my kiddo seems to always figure out these "rare" things that no one else seems to know about.:ybatty:
I want boring back.:(

Take a permanent marker and draw a ring around the outside edge of the blister.

That way you will know for sure if it is getting bigger or not.

And since there is a definite concern, I would check him everywhere for any more blisters/rash. Everywhere. Maybe there's an adult male person around who could help with that part.

And I personally would check him regularly for a fever.

Any of them get a target or bulls-eye like appearance I would take him to ER as that can be SJS. I would not Google that if I were you as you probably do not want to know anything more than that it merits a trip to ER.

Hope it goes away on it's own and turns out to be NBD (no big deal).

Patricia

Thanks for the suggestions
DS routinely has allergy issues so marking the flare or blister in the case is a given for us.
Unfortunately I have looked up SJS in the past for some of his other rashes including to tylenol.

Allergy nurse looked at it in person and allergist saw the picture.
