Reaction to Pentasa or Entocort withdrawal?

After a bout of bleeding I was prescribed Entocort for 3 months. I saw my GI around 3 weeks ago and he thought I was so asymptomatic that he wanted to taper me off Entocort and on to Pentasa. I've finally stopped Entocort and started Pentasa a few days ago and it's been horrible.

My stomach has been gurgling non stop and I've been having urgent bowel movements. On Entocort I was constipated but things were solid. On Pentasa, they're loose. It's only been four days since tapering and I got my first bloody stool. It was loose and A LOT. I'm panicking a bit so I popped a 3mg of Entocort just in case.

Is the Pentasa just not working or is this a reaction to tapering off the Entocort? Should I just deal with the blood and the gurgling until the Pentasa settles or are my flare symptoms coming back?

I don't know but I would say the flare might be coming back. I would call your doctor. Let us know how you are doing.

I think due to taper off entocort. Entocort is steroid based add can be difficult to wean off. Or at times, like in my case, I have been unable to wean off.
Contact your MD and see what they say, keep us posted.

My GI is impossible to reach but I left him a message and requested that he refill my prescription for Entocort. Personally, I can't afford for him to get back to me in 3 weeks after I've bled out so I got my pharmacist to write me a prescription for the next 30 days.
