Oh well, the holiday fades away into lovely memories. Back for a blood test yesterday - at least the nurse got it first time! Everything ok except for the liver function - it is still too high to begin the 6mp.
Is it wrong to be glad? As long as liver function is high we don't have to start the meds again - putting off the inevitable! :ysmile:
Andrew was up at 1am last night for a bm, which is something he has never done. :frown: I am really hoping it was just the rather rich and large pizza he had yesterday!
The break from all this was nice, pity it couldn't last!

Oh Sascot I'm sorry about his liver.
I'm happy you both are getting a break from the meds.
I hope all goes well for you both.

Sorry to hear about the levels but I totally understand the secret gladness of not beginning the med. Ahhhh...the holiday bubble I bet it was nice. I'm opting for the the 365 bubble and possibly some bubbly to keep me there! Hope last night was the rich pizza!!

I suggest you ask your doctor about switching to a combination of Imuran and Allopurinol. This has worked for a lot of people when their liver is stressed by 6-MP or AZA.

The Allopurinol causes the mercaptopurine in the Imuran to be processed more slowly by the liver. This seems to reduce the stress on the liver and often causes the liver enzyme levels to drop back into normal range.

Sorry to hear about the middle of the night bm. Hope it was a fluke.

Ugghh, sorry reality is knocking! :ybatty: I, too, hope that last night was simply due to the pizza!

And so understand being 'glad' at the delay at starting new meds! :ghug:

Hope tonight is uneventful!

But wait...all his levels except the liver are still good? That's good news right? He hasn't been on any meds since before your holiday right? Any chance you can opt for something on the lower end of the step up?

Sorry his liver counts are still high even without the meds and totally understand the gladness. Hope last night was the silly pizza!

Keep us posted

Well last night was ok - no night time trips to the toilet :thumright:.
Crohnsinct - his blood tests have always been fine from before diagnosis right through to now. It's one of the reasons I really struggle to justify the meds - there isn't anything that really proves to me that he needs it. :yfrown:
In fact his blood tests were actually better before the Aza since his liver was fine then

I understand where you are coming from Sascot because my 9 year old son has minimal symptoms (occasional small amounts of blood in his stool and a small anal fissure, but no pain or diarrhea) and his labs are pretty good too but his GI doc still strongly recommends we start him on Aza and I'm reluctant to agree with starting the Aza right now...

It's so hard, the decisions we have to make. Best wishes to you and your son :)

Is it wrong to be glad? No way!

Good to hear the night time trips to the bathroom have settled. :) I hope the liver counts do very soon too, but then again...ugh, the decisions are just the worst!

Good luck hun, you are in my thoughts...

I will stay in my bubble, I will stay in my bubble!!! Trying my best to ignore Andrew now having to go to the toilet around 10pm every night. Still - he feels ok and has no pain so will be an ostrich for a while longer!
Totally aside from that, at the risk of sounding daft again - faecal calprotectin seems to be the "definitive" diagnostic test for our paediatrician. Amy is still having alot of pain in her rectum and sometimes "at the front" inside, but now her faecal calprotectin has come back under 20. So now it's almost like - well she definately doesn't have Crohn's, but they don't seem bothered about testing for anything else. Was up till nearly midnight (or at least 11pm) the last few nights. Aaaah! Mmm, deep breaths. :ytongue:

Sorry to hear that.
I know the fecal calprotectin for Grace was low at 63 and the doc said well that's good and send us on our way.

I'm in my BUBBLE right next to ya! Pass something sweet. I'm hungry!

Both Sarah and I have the faecal calprotectin test, mine come back at 19 so continue with dx of IBS. Sarah was over 500 and as you know a dx of crohn.

Sascot if you are still concern maybe have the calprotectin test done again when Amy is showing more symptoms.

Farmwife, was the faecal calprotectin done for farmgirl when she symptoms were at there worse? If not try and have it done again when symptoms are bad.

Hopefully my logical make sense.

Hi there,

I just wante to say 'Thining of you' I too have a boy with perianal problems, which have been good for a while but now is grumbling away again. His doc is now talking about azathioprine, so I know you feelings. It is very hard to decide to give your little one such medications. When it comes to Crohn's it seems they are all difficult decisions!

I hope the next blood test shows his liver enzymes back to normal, but i can understand your concern about 6MP.

Take good care of yourself.
