Hi,

I was admitted last week friday (7days ago) and given 60mg pred for 3 days in hospital through IV. I was discharged monday and put on 40mg pred. Some of the side effects have started kicking in such as (ones in bold are really bad):

- Headaches
- Mood Swings

- Muscle Cramps
- Indigestion

Does anyone know any ways to possibly get rid of the side effects, i'm aware it could be because of tapering. Also i'm only 14 so I'm not going to be able to get some medications.

The mood swings are really bad, i actually just got angry and started crying, it came to a point were I walked out of the house and went to the doctor surgery, but they thought i was going mad and just said you need to go to hospital.

I'm scared.

Help please?

ugh, I'm so sorry! I had the horrible mood swings while I prednisone. I don't know that there is anything you can do about them. They were horrible, and I would get terribly depressed while on it. I hope someone can maybe help you and give you some advice, but I never really found a way to help them except for tapering of the pred. As my dose got lower, the mood swings would start to subside.

Don't worry, the side effects will subside with your taper. I had similar side effects, mood swings, dizzyness, nausea, restlessness....and as i tapered they were less noticeable.

Hi there. I too felt a lot of mood swings on 60 and 40 mg. I am down to 30 and feeling much more normal. It scared me though. One minute, I would be very weepy and sad, and a few minutes later, I would blow up at my poor 4 year old girl. It will get better. I does suck, though.
