Hey guys,

I'm looking for some advice on how you may have helped yourselves recover from resection surgery once you got home.

I had my surgery a week ago (29th Sept) and after a few ups and downs in hospital (vomiting all my food back up because my bowels were still on strike, they finally started working early yesterday morning and I ended up have the D pretty much all night and morning) they released me today, problem is I've been home about 6 hours now and I don't know if I feel right.

I don't feel in pain or sick in any major way and for some reason I haven't had to even go to the bathroom at all but I don't feel as good as I did earlier before I came home either.

I pretty much came home, watched a little TV sat up in bed and then tried to sleep all afternoon, is this good? am I in some kind of weird good shock just to be home?

I know this probably doesn't make a lot of sense but thank you to any who try to help.

hey
ive only just had surgery myself (3 weeks ago) and tbh i didnt know what to expect. When i first came home (5 days after surgery), i didnt feel like eating at all, and was very tired and weak, but once id had a rest for the day and woke up the next morning i felt a liot better (nothing is instant with crohns)

Ive just learnt that eating small portions regularly during the day helps, and u probs will find that you have the dreaded D, but i ended up taking imodium coz i got so fed up with it

Pm me if u wanna talk

Surgery, and especially the anesthesia takes a lot out of you. If you feel a little wiped out, that is normal. On the other hand, if you start having any specific problems do not hesitate to talk to your doctor.

Take it easy for a while, and give a little time to recover.

Hi there, I have had two surgeries and it is very normal to feel sore, and tired. Your bowels are still in shock, and if you are worried dont be, perfectly normal, I drank Ensure for a while until the bowels started to work again. Are you on any drugs? Laproscopy surgery persons heal alot quicker and younger patients as well. Takes time just relax and get plenty of sleep and drink water to wash out the Anaesthesia sp.

I had my resection in March 2009. I couldn't describe it when I came home from the hospital after my resection surgery either, but I just felt .... off. I couldn't explain it. I didn't hurt I didn't feel sick I just didn't feel right. I did end up going back to the ER that night (had the worst experience there, darn nurses) and basically was sent home saying nothing was wrong. But they did hook me up to an IV while I was there. I did feel better after I left, and I think basically for me it was more of a dehydration issue.

My surgeon said I would have D for a while after surgery for a few reasons. He said due to the anti-biotics they pumped in me, the anesthesia and pain meds, and then of course your body trying to get itself back to normal. I actually told him I was ok with that, because I wasn't mentally ready to even think of a hard poop going through there yet. :) haha

I'm sure you'll be ok. You will be weak and you will tire out easily. Just take it easy, rest several times a day. Do more and more walking around your house each day, but don't push it. You'll start to feel normal in no time. Well, normal enough. :)

As others have said, if you want to talk, feel free to PM. Good luck with it all, and I hope you heal up fast.

It took a good 10 days at home before I was feeling normal. Protein is essential for healing, so try to eat. At first its hard, but soups, shakes things you enjoy will help. I found once my appetite was stimulated, I was ravenous. Take it slow, when you need something for pain, take it. Drink plenty of water.

Let us know how your doing again.:)
