recovery from surgery

Had my surgery to remove appendix and some bowel a month ago. Recovery has gone fairly smoothly, my wounds reopened and needed packing but the main issue is fatigue. I am still sleeping a lot and wondered if this was something other people experienced after their surgeries. Any thoughts welcome.

I just posted in another thread this same thing, but I'll say it again - I am four months post op, and really only got my energy back about two or three weeks ago! Don't underestimate how much a major surgery really takes out of you, and how long it can take to recuperate. The general anesthesia alone can really knock the wind out of your sails.

Take it easy, and rest rest rest. Give it time and try not to push yourself too hard.

I think you are right in line. My surgery was 14 years ago but I was home for 3 months and then started back to work slow. I don't know if you were dealing with a flare prior to surgery but, if so, you are recovering from more than just the surgery. I agree with the other post, abdominal surgery is a HUGE deal its going to take time so give yourself a break.

Thanks. I was beginning to think I was being a wuss being so tired still a month later. I'm scheduled to be back at work next week, I'm just not sure I'm going to make it.

After GA you can feel tired for months I had my surgery 10 months ago and I still get a wee bit tired especially after lunch. I have a physical job and on my feet all day and I also go to the gym, so it has got to the stage that it doesn't stop me doing what I want. It has def improved though and my B12 levels are normal but get yours checked just in case.

Oh my gosh, I was beyond tired after my surgery! Almost too tired to sleep! I had no idea either that it would be that bad. It is awful, but completely normal. Give yourself some slack. :)
