So, for the past few days, my butthole (sorry, for lack of a better term!) has been extremely painful every time I use the toilet (pee or poop, though it's rare that I have one and not the other) and remains very painful for about 15 minutes after. I've been using Preparation H, which I've used before, but it has made no difference. The pain is like a burning, stinging pain, and there is some blood on the TP, but not a whole lot. I've tried to use a mirror to check out the scene down below, but it's not too easy! I did see what I think are a couple of bumps or mole-type things near the target site. I'm gonna call my GI tomorrow, but I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions for relieving the fire! Thanks for indulging my little grossout party :)

Try soaking. If it's a fissure then that's going to be what your GI recommends so I would just take a nice hot soak, you don't want it too hot though. Good luck

Here I go again...
I've written this at least 5 times now on this forum, but I swear by it - so I'll write it again. When I get a sore ass I use an ointment called Calmoseptine. I get it at the pharmacy at my grocery store, Wegman's, which looks like they have one north of Philly. If they don't have it in stock, they can get it by the next day. It has menthol in it, and is so cooling and soothing. It's only 6 bucks for a large tube, and SO worth it. Prep H and all of those others never did a thing for me. Get some - it's great!!

fabulous - i have a wegman's near me, so i will go there first thing tomorrow and check it out. thank you!!!

So it's actually your anus not your rectom that you're having issues with...if you have crohn's then there's a good chance those "bumps" you might have seen are actually perianal crohn's skin tags and yes, you definitely need to see your doc about this...always report any changes to your GI.

:)

proctosedyl is what i use and love and promote with great joy:)

its an OTC med in australia, contains per gram
5mg hydrocortisone
5mg cinchocaine hydrochloride

very soothing:D

Having the same problems recently... I'm off my meds and have been going 15 times a day, that'll do it... It's a real pain. Ruins your whole attitude too, having to go so often only for it to be painful. I know you guys have had to deal with this a lot before, but this is my first time and, uggggggh. Sorry.

God that's so hot when you say it like that.

DREW!!!!!
You had to change it to bold print too, didn't you.
See people??? I'm not just the forum slut - I'm helpful too!!

hahaha - you guys crack me up (pun intended). I know it's the anus and not the rectum, but I just wanted to be stupid and make the joke :) I couldn't think of a good anus headline...maybe "I'll trade my anus for Uranus?" eh - I'll keep trying. Thanks for all the great advice! I have a call in to my doc so we'll see...

Well... the joke still makes me laugh! I used to work with another guy with crohns many years ago (we used to trade sigmoidoscopy stories), and one of his sayings was: "Rectum? Damn near killed 'em!" heh! heh!

When you have ulcers in your rectum does that mean its crohn's colitis?
I've had 2 doctors refer to my case now as crohn's colitis. Initially, I thought the 1st doctor was just mistaken because it was when I was hospitalized. But this week I had an appt with a surgeon who said the same thing.

That's a good question, Sam. I'm interested in the answer b/c I had a c-oscopy a couple weeks ago, and I also now have rectal ulcers.
Sorry I don't have an answer, but it's nice to not be alone.

MBH is a megasore-ass

Use disposible moist wipes instead of TP. This makes a world of difference for me. Huggies "clean team" is the brand we use. Not only is this more gentle on the skin but it cleans better with fewer wipes.

Second suggestions is to use an over the counter ointment with hydrocortizone in it, (I don't know what prep H has in it). This was recommended to me by my GI nurse practitioner and it took the edge off. She said that was the first thing she'd recommend but that if it didn't work for me she'd give me a prescription for some kind of medicated enema. Yikes. Funny how the doc's office does a better job and making you not want to complain than coming up with things that manage symptoms

Last recommendation are old fashioned sitz baths in epsom salts.

Don't trade uranus...I tried that and when they took mine and didn't give one back!! Instead I got an ileostomy....lol..lol..I try not to say lmao anymore either..I don't know if I want to lose the rest of it :) :)

karlyg - did you ever get the Calmo?? The rules on this forum are that when you try the Calmo you have to give a full-praiseMBH-shining testimonial full of application details and the following moments of sheer menthol glory.
In other words - how's your butt?

edit - I just checked. Karlyg hasn't been on since January. My prediction? Calmo fixed her up good, and she doesn't need us any more.
/wipes tears
(both tears of sadness cuz she's not here, and tears of joy cuz another Calmoseptine graduate has flown the nest.

When you say ulcers in your rectum, do you mean around your anus?

I'm just wondering your suffering from fistulas and abcsesses like a lot of us on here?

I have had surgery for both fistula and abcsess...this is internal, I had a follow up exam w/ the surgeon who examined inside.
