Hi All, just wondering if it is normal to get moderate symptoms back once you've dropped your Pred? I am now down to half the dose I was on in hospital and have had some loose mucosy BM's (no blood)and the pain is niggly in my right side again. I haven't put on any weight and am reluctant to back to GI as he was wanting me to consider TPN.
Should I wait and see if it will settles or am I being a nutter:)?

cheers shooni

Yes, this is very common. It happens to me almost everytime I wean off of pred. When I wean off pred, I am very very careful about what I eat in order to try and keep my intestines calm. Prednisone is no cure...it worked great to calm the inflammation, but usually the inflammation return as you wean. Call your GI-- they may want you to do a slower wean, or put you on another medicine. If you aren't already doing it, try anti-inflammatory supplements as you wean like tumeric, fish oil, peppermint tea, and soothing liquid food like broth and smoothies.

thanks tzvia, did as you suggested GI wants me to hold on current dose for 2 weeks then begin my taper again and ring him if this doesn't work. Pheww I guess I was stressing for for nothing, fingers crossed this will do the trick.

thanks again

Still waiting for the pain to subside, not very positive as it has increased and now spread to my left side 'Not Happy Jan!' I am now counting down the days till I go back to my GI '17 days'. I hope it doesn't get any worse,I don't want to go back into hospital.
