Refried beans on a full liquid diet?

After a colonoscopy last Thursday, I finally have a solid diagnosis! My doctor put me on Prednisone that very day. He told me to be on a full liquid diet for the time being. It's fine, but I'm finding it difficult to come up with meal replacements that aren't dairy based (I'm not a fan of milks and creams and such).

Is it OK to eat some refried beans with a little cheese melted on top, or are they still too thick? I figured if people are saying Oat Meal is OK I figured beans may also be fine.

Help?

(If anyone has any alternative suggestions, that'd be much appreciated, too )

Hi,
I would think he suggested a liquid diet to limit aggravation of your guts. If you were going to add some food I would make sure it is low fiber (low residue.) Refried beans are definitely not low fiber. Toast (white bread) with melted cheese is low fiber. Boiled peeled potaoes, white rice are also low res as is boiled skinless chicken and fish.
Are you on nutritonally complete drinks (like Ensure plus)?
Might be a good idea to see a dietician. It's a shame your doc didn't explain better!
All the best.

Refried beans = not a good idea. Refried beans are oily and fattening and really wouldnt be easy to digest. Oatmeal is thin, but it can be fiberous and can cause some stomach upsets. I know I cant eat any oatmeal or else it really gets stopped up in my intestines.

Melted cheese certainly is not liquid diet, but it isnt terrible. It really depends on your tolerance to dairy. If you are lactose intolerant it might be a bad idea.

If you want to be strict, technically a real liquid diet would include things like: different types of broth (chicken, vegetable, beef), jell-o, flavored ices, boost/ensure, water, etc.

From wikipedia:

Clear liquid diet

A clear liquid diet consists of transparent liquid foods such as vegetable broth, bouillon, clear fruit juices, clear fruit ices, popsicles, clear gelatin desserts, or clear carbonated drinks.
[edit] Full liquid diet

A full or strained liquid diet consists of both clear and opaque liquid foods with a smooth consistency. It includes milk, milkshakes, ice cream, puddings, st, and honey. Fruit juices (without pulp), coffee, gelatin, popsicles (without pulp), water, and clear carbonated beverages are also acceptable.

I would not even consider refried beans when I am perfectly well. Don't eat any food until your doctor says so. If you really must ............. go for boiled potatoes, pastas (without sauce but just a little cheese), rice with some minced meat although the latter is already perhaps too heavy. Sorry Killjoyspaceboy but I think the oatmeal is also off.

Try making pureed style soups, like sqaush, sweet potato, or potato. Use rice milk instead of milk. Drink alternative milks, like soy, rice, almond, etc.

Make smoothies with bananas, fruit juice and soft tofu.
