relapse

ive probably had crohns since 17, first symptoms were diarrhoea from age 22, im now 32 and had 56cm of small intestine removed.

whats the statistics for relapse? i seriously couldnt go through this operation again and live i think.

It varies quite a lot. If your Crohns was confined to the small bowel (no sign in the large bowel) then there's a very good chance you will maintain remission for a long long time. Even if you have some sign in the large bowel it will be much easier to treat with the newer meds that have been developed, following surgery. Don't even think about having to go through that again!
Hey that surgery can be really tough when you have had the illness a long time. But you will feel so much better pretty soon and in time forget the whole nightmare.
Glad you made it through the op and hope you can take it easy and heal up.
All the best.

Like Handle said it varies i don't know what the percentage is for a flare up again of crohn's is. it is unpredicable it can strike anytime and anywhere. I hope this surgery puts you in remission for a long time and there won't be another flare up. Just watch your diet. take your medications and hopefully things will be fine.best wishes.

I had surgery for CD 50 years ago when I was 20. They took 4 feet of colon & 7 feet of lower intestine. Had no relapses since then, though have had diarrhea on & off during that time. I have recently started taking Psyllium and that has certainly helped the diarrhea. Now only going to the bathroom twice a day.

I watch my diet a little bit - I don't eat the probable triggers like anything with skins on (tomatoes, cherries, plums, orange/grapefruit pulp juice, nuts etc) but I eat most other things. No problem with coca-cola, wine & beer in reasonable doses (2 glasses).

you can eat anything you like?
what about coca cola?

Funny you should ask. Yes, as I type I am drinking coca cola!! I occasionally drink alcohol too. That is not to say I never have belly pain. But it is nothing like the pain I had before the bowel resection. All the members on this thread are correct. remission varies a lot. Crohn's is unpredictable. Stress is bad!!! I cant think of any reason you cant eat what you like. You just have to see what you can tolerate. There is tons of info in this forum about diet and nutrition.
