Ok, I admit it. I'm almost 6 months pregnant and that MIGHT have a bit to do with this new found germaphobia. That doesn't change the fact that we touch some pretty icky stuff on a daily basis.

I'd like to run this by ya'll though and get your opinion. I signed up for a prenatal yoga class at a well established local yoga studio. The first class was great, with the exception of ONE little thing. I brought my own yoga mat and blanket, not realizing we'd need to use other props for the class. There are bolsters (basically little pillows) and foam blocks. I was doing ok in the class until this one specific move. You use the two foam blocks and the bolster to make a little table top in front of you. Imagine you're sitting on your tailbone with your legs opened into a y in front of you and this little makeshift table in front of you. Now, you lean your body forward and rest your head onto the "table". Now, I'm looking around, and all I can see if 20 something pregnant ladies rubbing their faces in these bolsters. The same bolsters we were sitting on crosslegged not 2 minutes earlier in order to "facilitate the opening of our pelvic bones". So .. 1st exercise .. crotch to bolster action. 2nd exercise, rub race on bolster. I was horrified!! Later in the class we did a squatting exercise and used the foam block under our tailbones for support (and by tailbone I mean crotch), then a few exercises later we used the same blocks to rest our foreheads on in a different stretch.

I used my blanket as a crotch to face barrier, but everyone else in the class used the mexican blankets provided by the facility. After the class, I made the mistake of asking them how often the blankets were washed. The desk person very seriously told me they had a STRICT schedule and washed the blankets once a month religiously. ONCE A MONTH?!! And they never washed the bolster covers or the foam blocks.

I just don't understand how the other ladies weren't at all concerned. I realize I'm on an immunosuppressant, and really, my main concern WAS the germs, but come on!! How many preggie crotches on a pillow does it take before you decide that maybe you don't want to put your face on it?

I'm going to continue going to the classes, but I'm going to take my own cleaning wipes for the blocks. I am trying so hard not to pick up any random germs (eek like the flu!) this year. I just was hoping to hear that I'm not over the top with this germ stuff. :ybatty:

I work in a medical lab and am going on Remicade soon. I totally get the germaphobia as despite my workplace being a lab - they are not very good about keeping it clean. I have a bit of OCD/neat freak in me anyway so trust me I am getting concerned. I have taken to carrying hand sanitizer in my purse and using it often even just out in public.

I would for sure take wipes or at least purchase my own equipment so I wasn't sharing.

Money(paper and coin) and cell phones(from being used while people are on the toilet - yuck) and door handles and handrails - still are the most common sources of all kinds of nasty bugs!!!

kllyeve, have you tried the Bath & Body Works hand sanitizers? I use them constantly, and have had so many people stop and ask me what smells so good. I especially love the peach one. They're 5 for $5 most of the time and so worth it.

Another funny story, my husband and I were visiting my nephew in the hospital last week. We got on the elevator and I asked him to push the button. This lady looked at me with the MEANEST look ever!! I felt the need to "confess", so I blurted out "I just don't like to touch it". That made her look even MORE disgusted, so I told her I was on a hard core immunosuppressant. The funny thing, there were two panels of numbers! One on our side and one on hers. It's not like she couldn't have pressed her own damn button.

I definitely didn't touch it heh heh, I didn't want to catch whatever bug was up her @$$!!

Not a big fan of scented products but I'll look and see if they have an unscented one. Thks

I never usually had to ask someone to push the buttons as my son was totally into pushing any button he could find!!

I worked in a medical lab until I was 1 month from my due date. I bleached everything and washed my hands religiously. I also have done a lot of yoga. You can buy your own blocks at Walmart as well as all the other equipment. It is not too expensive. The fact that people put their rear ends on those blocks has not escaped me. Bring your own everything. It is not just the rear ends but a lot of viruses are passed just from sweat. Don't take any chances when you are on immune suppressants, even if you are not pregnant.
