Remicade or Humira?

Hi everyone!

Recently my doctor from the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia has thrown out the idea of me going on Humira, since I'm going to college fall 2013. I am currently on Remicade, but have been on it for about 6 years since I was 12. So far my immune system has not created antibodies to fight against the Remicade.

I just would like some opinions about Remicade vs. Humira. Which one is better? How has anybody reacted to Humira? Side affects? Is it a pain in the neck, or don't you mind it? Do you regret leaving Remicade for Humira?

Just please let me know because I really don't want to make the wrong decision and possibly ruin my chances of never being able to use Remicade again. **By the way, I am currently in remission, but my doctor still wants me to use one of these two drugs**

Humira is better, but most doctors will use Remicade first. Why? Because why use the best medicine first? If a pistol will work why bring in an assault rifle? :] I know that was a weird analogy but for some reason it popped in my head. lol

Both are similar types of immune suppressant drugs; but one is developed out of animal hemoglobin and the other by human hemoglobin (Simply put).

If Remicade works for you there is no reason to use Humira. Just keep it in your inventory of solutions when Remicade stops working. Yea even still in remission you have to use an immune suppressant drug. It sucks I know. I been in remission for a while now but still on Remicade but not every 4 weeks but every 8-10 weeks.

Remicade, Cimzia and Humira all theoretically should do the same thing. Remicade has the most research and has been around the longest.

The only benefit to Humira or Cimzia over remicade is you can self inject but I don't think one medication is better than the other. Some respond to one but not the other. If Remicade is working for you, why take a chance and stop it?
