ok-
I went to the Dr Thurday morning and it has been decided that I will start Remicade or Humira. My Dr did not endorse one over the other. (Isn't that why I pay him the big bucks?)

I am leaning towards Remicade. It is my understanding that Remicade is is 80%-20% human to animal protein. Humiar 100% human protein. If you fail
Humira you cant back up and go to Remicade. You can move from Remicade to Humira should you need to. That seems to legthen your treatment options.

Remicade has been out much longer than Humira- so the long term side affects are known.

I have read on here somewhere that when on Remicade you should take another medication to prevent antibodies from building up.

My TB test looks like it will be negative and my liver studies are negative. I needed to have those done to start either drug.

I guess my Ins Co has to give me approval- I wonder how long that will take.

If you have any advice or opinions please let me know- I need to let my Dr know Monday what I want to do!

My Dr also told me my colon was also involved. Never heard that before. I don't know the implacations of that either.

Thanks in advance-

Lauren

I really can't say which to do first. I do know that one thing you said is not correct - you CAN try Remi if Humira fails you.
Humira worked very well for me, but only lasted 5 months. I started Remicade after that and have been on it for more than 3 years now and am in an awesome remission.
I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Humira if Remi fails me eventually.
Honestly, I think either is fine to start with. You can do Humira at home, so it's a bit more convenient if you work, but you have to do the injections yourself. I couldn't bring myself to do them so I had my husband do them.
Good luck, whichever you choose! The little poke is soooo worth feeling better!
