Has anybody here failed to get into remission or otherwise given up on Humira and then had success with Remicade?

I may have to give up on Humira soon and running out of good alternatives!

Hello,
I have used bother drugs and both worked well for me for a while. I started on remicade though and then had humira. I found remicade worked a lot quicker for me but humira worked just as well but took longer to kick in, I was on each of these drugs for a year before I had allergies reactions.
Hope everything goes well for you whatever decision you make

Hi Paul Cronk! I recently had to stop taking Humira because I kept getting recurring upper resp infections that took forever to go away. I did great on the loading doses and saw some improvement (I have minor symptoms while in remission such as a low CRP of 9, diarrhea, joint pain and some mucus, all of which the Humira got rid of at first) but once I started the lower dose every other week it was all downhill from there. I only took it for about 3-4 months.

I'm already in remission and would like to stay in remission and was taking 6MP for years before I had to switch to Humira. Had to stop the 6MP because it was starting to affect my liver. Like you I'm also running out of options and will be starting Remicade soon. Its very similar to Humira but a lot easier to control the dosage and I've been told there's less of a chance to get constant upper resp infections. I hope it works for me and for you too if you decide to go that route. :)

The data I've read (such as this) basically states that if you've had success with a tnf blocker (Humira, Remicade, Cimzia) for awhile and then it stopped working, chances are the next tnf blocker will work for you as well. If you fall into the category where the tnf blocker never worked for you, then odds are the next one won't help either.

I was not near remission when I started Remicade.

After 4 treatments my Gi doc started me on Prednisone for 1 month. I just had my 5th
infusion and moved from 5 to 7.5 today. I can honestly say I feel the best today more
than anyother time.

Hopefully all these meds will be "the perfect storm" to knock me into remission.

I hope you find a combo that works for you !!

Lauren

I'm on the flip side of you - Remicade has failed me (after working somewhat well for a year) and now I'm considering switching to Humira. How long were you on Humira?

KayleighMeek - may I ask what medications, if any, you are on currently? I am also considering discontinuing Remicade due to development of an allergic reaction (I'm assuming the reaction is due to the development of anti-bodies to the Remicade).
