Hello,

I found out that I'm pregnant and currently am on Remicade for the past year. It's been helping me since my last attack. I would like to know if anyone outthere has had an experince with Remicade while pregnant and breast feeding. It's sooo important to me that I will safely deliver this baby and be able to nurse.
Thank you,
Klove

I don't know about during pregnancy, but I was on it when I was breastfeeding and was told it was safe, as it doesn't pass into the breast milk.

I personally haven't been pregnant while on Remicade (but plan to in the future) but my GI just reconfirmed with me last week that it is far safer to stay on Remicade and minimize disease activity than to go off it and flare. There is risk in everything but he feels Remicade's risk is very, very low.

I bet the "hot line " for Remicade can answer your questions.

I looked for my papers from my treatments and couldn't find them.

Congrats on the baby! I am remember those days, my "baby" just turned 18 and is
6 feet tall!

Thank you all for your replies. I'm seeing my specialist today so will know better after that. I have been doing my own research and so far it looks safe. This pregnancy is my third and the past two I wasn't on anything. My crohn's was in remission during the entire time and after when I started nursing it remained the same because of sustaining my hormonal balance. It's 50/50 chance of flare up if I remain on Remicade or get off of it. Well, I'm leaning towards staying on it, since I don't want to risk getting sick.
Thanks again,
Klove

Congratulations on the pregnancy!
I just wanted to let you know that I am 20 weeks along and have been on Remicade since the beginning. Now from what I was told, I think they prefer not to give it to you during the first 3 months. When I went for my infusion I informed the nurse that I thought I was pregnant (this is my 6th boy, so I kinda know what it feels like) so he did a blood test and it came back negative so they went ahead with my infusion.I *knew* that blood test was wrong. It was wrong because the baby hadn't implanted yet, and I was able to feel implantation cramps the following morning.I was right and got a positive hpt 12 dpo. :)
So I did end up getting it the first few months, and have been right on schedule with my other infusions as well.
I'm happy to report that doctor said baby looked great during my 19 week ultrasound.I'm also on other meds as well that I was a little worried about, but all and all everything is going well.
Try not to worry.

Thank you Dixidoll23,

I am feeling a lot more at ease now that I have done more research ang got some responses back. I'm in my 10th week of my pregnancy and everything Is going well so far:)

Thanks again

Definitely talk to your GI, but it's generally fine for most of pregnancy. I had a miscarriage last year, but when I was pregnant, my GI told me that I should stay on Remicade up until around the 3rd trimester. I was also told that it is generally OK for breastfeeding. But definitely talk to your doctor!
