Hi

I have not been on here for a while (although been looking) Have had lots of problems with my 2 daughters who are having health problems and my husband.

After the resection on 10th Nov and the problems that I had until Feb this year, I have been very well. Scar healed up and only going to the loo 2/3 times a day on average and dont have to get up in the night very much:) Still got to see the surgeon 1 more time in July just in case (he says) but had to see the gastro specialist today and was told that i would have to have a colonoscopy to see that everything was behaving, had blood taken, and go back in June to discuss going onto azathioprine to maintain remission.

Any advice greatly appreciated, as I seem to have some off one immuno suppressant to be put on another:-(

Hey warge,

It's good that you recovering nicely after your surgery. I've had my surgery back in 2003 and was started right away with aza after the surgery (basically three days later), any reason they are waiting with discussing it with you so long?

As to long term management of Crohn's and remission, have you discussed biologics or aza/biologics combo therapy? Just asking, because in the last few years the combination therapy has become pretty much standard in the US (except if someone is on aza already and it is working well....) due to its much higher effectiveness compares to immunosuppresives alone or biologics alone... And combination therapy doesn't really have more side effects. There is a study about that from 2010, that you may want to google.

Just my 2 cents ;-)

Cheers,
A

Hi Alex

They never discussed it with me after the op which was done privately, my treatment now has to go to the NHS as my private health company will not cover a chronic disease:-( This was my first appointment since the op so I wasnt sure what to expect and they only discussed aza. The doc asked what i wanted to do, did i want to see what happened or go on the aza to try and keep me in remission longer. I will have to make a decision in the next couple of months.

I am hoping for advice from people like yourself so that I can make a decision.
