REMISSION several years

Has anyone on here been in remission several years w/ no flare ups? Had small and large bowel resection along w/ hysterectomy due to fistulae from the Crohns and have been symptom free since. Drs. told me miracle....just doesn't happen. I was 22, now 54. Praise God!

I also get a bit jealous when I hear of them as well I know its terrible, but have had the disease for 12 years and never been in remission once! Oh well, it really makes me hope for better days a lot more!

I work with a chap who had a bad flare, his one and only with crohns, some 25 years ago, they removed a portion of his bowel and he has been pretty much ok since then, rare but it does happen.

I was diagnosed at age 8. Struggled until first surgery at 12. Some issues on and off. Had a flare at 21 and immediate surgery. (fistula) No major problems.. minor flare here and there over the years.
Now, at 42 I am back to having problems that must be attended to. I really had no major issues from 21 till 41. Then it was the pain every day and had to go to doc. Went, to hospital that day.
My mother had surger in the mid 70's. No major issues since.

I had a 4 year remission once. I know some who had a 20 year remission before he flared again. It happens.

I was in remission for 20 years. Had surgery in 1990. Symptom free till may 2010. Had surgery again dec 30. Recovering now. Hopefully this puts me in remission for 20 more years.

that is awesome news for you guys that have been as fortunate as me. those of you still waiting for a long remission, don't give up. PRAY. Be as patient as possible which I know too well all the pain, meds, surgery, recovery, etc. I dealt with. If you want to discuss further, I would be more than happy! I want to give you all a lift!

I was in remission for 7 years up until December. I'm hoping to get back into remission quickly and stay there for at least another 7 years.

i was diagnosed w/uc at 20 (am now 64). suffered for many yrs. and in 2002 was told i had flipped from colitis to crohns. after a week's hospitalization, i was put on 6mp and haven't had a flare since, so that's 8 yrs. hate the horrid fatigue that goes with 6mp, along w/other side effects, but all of them are manageable or worth it to be symptom-free.

I went 10 years & almost 5 pre -diagnosis in remission (one of the reasons diagnosis took so long)... and bearing in mind that I wasn't on any treatment... the disease appeared, went away on its own for a decade (before doctors could diagnose anything), then came back briefly (where they mis-diagnosed it), then went away for nearly 5 years, then came back in a vengence and stayed despite diagnosis and treatment until I started on LDN 3+ years ago. I don't class this latter period as remission, its more akin to the drug keeping my disease in check... whereas my prior 'remissions' were without meds or treatment of any kind. My current situation I tend to liken to a diabetic taking insulin... their diabetes isn't cured or in remission, just held in check by their insulin. See?

My mum has been in remission for the last 30ish years.
She saw a natropath when she decided she wanted to have children and went on a strict diet where she ate only lamb, cress, sunflower seeds and water for a year. She hasn't taken medication since and has never had surgery.

I on the other hand can only maintain my (as close to) remission (as I'm going to get) with remicade. Plus I don't have the self control to go on a diet like that! I like cake too much!!

I've been in remission for 2 years now, since my illeostomy. It's why I don't visit CF as much anymore. :-(

I must try harder. this place was such a ray of hope for me in my darkest days. I really shoud repay that kindness.
