Hi, so im not in remmission yet but i was just wondering if you had to eat your safe foods or could you eat fooods that might of upset you wen you were not in remmission because the inflamation is gone wen ur in remmission?
So what can you eat?

For me, I categorize foods as Crohn's triggers and those that are hard to digest when I'm in a flare. I always avoid the Crohn's triggers(which for me are preservatives/food additives such as "gums", carrageenan and natamycin). When I'm in a flare I avoid the hard to digest foods(for me being onions, garlic, high fiber foods). Outside of a flare I can have some of the onions, garlic, etc but too much of certain types gives me IBS like issues(diarrhea, heartburn, gas). Everyone is different and you will have to see for yourself by keeping a food diary. I think regardless of remission/flare you should always try to feed your body with "clean" and nutritious food(stay away from sugar and highly processed foods). I also stay away from alcohol and hot spicy foods since I always get diarrhea regardless of flare/remission.

During remission, I usually ate most things I enjoyed. I mainly stayed away from spicy foods. Along the way if I realized something upset my stomach more than normal, I wouldn't eat it again. Basically, it's trial and error.
Good luck!

Whether I am in a flare or not, I try to avoid dairy, gluten, seeds, nuts and processed foods and there are probably other foods I am not thinking of. I don't trust my system to not act up even when I am not in a flare.
