research after surgery

I just had resection surgery and was wondering if they could do scientific research on the diseased section they took out?

Are you wondering:

1. If you can donate it to science?
2. If they will send it to pathology for tests?
3. If they will do research on the specimen without your permission?

I want it to be donated for science, the pathologist has it now.

Interesting question and one I don't know much about, sorry. Hopefully someone else does. I'm thinking it's probably too late at this point and it has to be setup with a lab/university beforehand but that's just a guess. I think it's really cool of you to be thinking that way though

They send it to pathology for pics and biopsies, but they probably dispose of it soon after.
I asked to see my half colon and they said it was already disposed of but they had taken pictures. The photograph they showed me was super high res and gross! Fascinating though, really it was.

But the biopsies they take are probably what your referring to.
