Hey all! I was just wondering how long you felt better for after a resection? A lot of the posts I.ve read on here talk about going into remission after getting a resection done. My resection was done as an emergency surgery a little over 6 months ago and I only felt better for like 2 months. I feel worse now than I ever did before. I.m just starting to wonder if I.ll ever feel any better! :ymad:

Ally - Sorry to hear you are not feeling better!

What exactly is going on? Are you having the same symptoms as before, or something different? What does your doc have to say about how you are feeling?

Sorry I can't offer you much help, but give us a little more info and maybe someone else here who has had a resection can give you some guidance.

good luck! -Amy

Perhaps your disease is located in more than one area. The section that was affecting me was removed and I've been in remission for over 10 years now. Not that I recommend surgery, what must be done must be done. I was always taking medication though (6MP and Asacol) but am currently only taking 6MP for Crohn's. I suspect another surgery may be in the future for me. Its not unheard of for people to have a flare again after surgery but can be common for people to go 10 years or more without a flare.

I was in remission for a little less than five years between my first and my second resections. After my second, I was in remission for nearly 10 years, and I'm hopeful that the flare I've been in recently will be knocked down with medicines rather than needing any sort of surgery (I certainly don't feel like my Crohn's is that bad at the moment, at least).

Any idea what was removed during your surgery? Was it inflamed tissue, or was it strictured areas of your bowel? Perhaps if they only removed some stricturing, there is still some inflammation that could be treated with steriods or biologics.

Regardless, I hope you manage to find some relief soon!
