Well I made it through the colonoscopy alright :) ( I was FREAKING out earlier in the week ). For the past couple days I have just been laughing about all the ridiculous things I said to the nurse when I was coming off that drug they gave me :)
Well the doctor called today with biopsy results and was "pleasently surprised" He said my only real problem area (which I could have guessed) was my terminal ilieum. I have lots of scar tissue. He is unsure if its just inflammed or if its there b/c of past flare-ups. During our conversation he mentioned going to speak to a surgeon about possibly removing that part and/or trying things such as Remicade/Humera. I told him that I couldn't do surgery until Spring of next year, b/c I have a wedding coming up. Right now i'm on Pentasa and Entocort until I meet with him on Thursday. I've been on those 2 meds for such a long time, I take them to please the doctors, but don't think they are doing anything.
My concern was I would like to start to eat normal food again. I guess I can start today, but just have to eat slow and tiny pieces.

Anyone have any thoughts on these meds vs. surgery? Or is just dealing with scar tissue?? I was excited about possible Remicade, but gosh there are some crazy side efects :( .....thanks for letting me vent!!

Glad you made it past the colonoscopy, we told you it wasnt all that bad lol. I understand you wanting to ward off surgery at the moment. If it is scar tissue, not much can help that. Remicade does have side effects and it is not for everyone, but alot of people do so well on it. I have had two resections in the Ieum. My first resection was laproscopic and healed very fast. Mind you I was alot younger then too. Surgery has been sought to always be a last resort but not the case any more. My opinion best to take out a little before it gets out of hand and be on a maintence drug post surgery, you can have a normal and healthier longer lifestyle.

Discuss it more with your doctor. If he recommends it then you maybe better off that route.

Btw is it your wedding and when is it? You can vent here anytime! ;)

Yup - my wedding. September 25th, so right around the corner!! That's why I'm tryinggggg by hardest not to stress about this stuff or anything at all for that matter :) I was against surgery years ago, but i'm very open to listen to what both the surgeon and my doctor has to say about things. I wouldn't mind trying the Remicade, it just makes me so nervous. I swear when I take meds I have every side effect listed!!

Thanks for listening

I'm no where near the best one to answer this as we had no choice with Roo's treatment.

But as far as how she has fared after surgery, she has done very well. The surgery put her straight into remission and she has maintained it for 4 years with a low dose of Imuran.

As Jett said, discuss all the pro's and con's with your doc.

:congratualtions: on your upcoming nuptials and I wish you both the very best..........how exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take care,
Dusty

If you have a lot of scar tissue, you might want to discuss going on a low residue diet. This avoids anything 'scrapy' that could further damage the tissue, also hard to digest items that might get stuck in the scars. Finally as there is less fibre in a low res diet there is less bulk so your gut doesn't have to work as hard.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!
