Hey all

Been home since Thursday from a 4.5 week stay in hospital. I had bad strictures in my duodenum that a balloon dilation alone could not fix them all.

I had a Roux en Y bypass done. This is the closest diagram I could find to illustrate. Note that my stomach was not altered. These surgeries are common for obese people looking to loose weight.

In the diagram, for me Point C is attached to the bottom area E. I did not have a gastric bypass. My duodenum is now bypassed. They did do a resection of the duodenum where they cut out 10in of bad bowel before reattaching it to section D in the diagram. This enables bile to meet with food to break it down. So right now, food has 2 pathways to exit my stomach. If the stricture the balloon fixed comes back, food will go where it has the least resistance being the new exit point.

My bowels and stomach are still getting use to this after 2.5 weeks since my surgery. I can't find examples of this done for Crohn's, only examples for gastric bypasses.
