Hello everyone...

I, personally, do not suffer from Crohn's but have 2 close friends that do. The one had asked me to register to run a 1/2 marathon with her in support of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America and we had our first team training/practice over the weekend. I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I had no idea Crohn's was such a debilitating disease and that it affects so many people! I joined this community because I'm looking to learn more about this disease in the hopes that I can understand more of what their struggles are. I hope that you don't mind a non-diagnosed person viewing this board... however, I feel the need to educate myself better since I'm running for this great cause now. What better way to do that than thru actual accounts and stories from those who deal with this illness day in and day out. I just wanted to say that I tip my hat to all of you and admire your strength and courage!

:welcome: to the forum!! Yes, you are most certainly able to be on the forum and Kudo's for you!!! You have no idea how little awareness there is in this disease and in total symptoms of amount of years is 35 years for me and almost 20 years diagnosed. We are all either trying to find out how to help each other and as you may not know one thing to keep in mind here is everyone is different in their disease and severity and level of pain. Even when not in a flare, we worry where is the bathrooms and pray you dont go into spasms. Stress is a major problem in this disease and support is needed.

We tend to lose not only friends but family members too, as this undpredictable disease can strike anyone at anytime and the medications affect us horribly. We are a trial and error for most of us, and switching meds because sooner or later they either fail or too many other side effects.

There is a wealth of information here, and nothing is sacred here and you can ask personal questions you may not know or be aware of. So glad you took the time to seek your friends lifetime disease and I commend you for it.

Many great people to help you here!!!!! :)

hi Ipetrex, and welcome!

as our front page reads, this forum is for anyone who's life has been affected by IBD... and the fact that you have two close friends with Crohn's, and you're proving that you are not only willing to sacrifice your time to learn more about this condition, you're actually physically helping to raise awareness - so, on many counts - you're welcome here :)

thank you for everything you're doing, and if your two friends aren't members here already, maybe you could point them in our direction :)

Hi Ipetrex!

What a great thing you are doing to support your friends, not just by participating in a marathon, but by actively seeking information about what this is and how this affects your friends. Hooray for people like you!!

Just wanted to say welcome, good luck in the marathon and thank you for supporting your friends and all of us with Crohn's & Colitis!

- Amy

Ipetrex, welcome to the forum.
I wish I had your energy to run, mine's taken up by multiple trips to the loo daily (probably raking up the miles by the hour!).
Anyhow, thanks for running on our behalf and raising awareness of IBD.
Good luck x
