Hi, I'm a 46 yr old man who was diagnosed with Crohns 7yrs ago. Been on AZA for this length of time but been advised by consultant to ween myself off. So went from 100g to 50mg per day and am now off it completely for 3 days and feeling rotten. I'm still on Asacol, 6 each day, but am worried that symptons will return. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I have been on the Aza previously myself and was not told to wean off this just to stop, I was on the Prednisone though and this did keep the tum settled whilst another maintainence med was introduced. when are you due to see the doc again to discuss this? Have they explained why you need to stop it? When you say you feel rotten is it that the tum is acting up or are you having other symptoms?

Hi, welcome to the forum!

Why do they want you to stop the Azathioprine? Did you experience any side effects? Have you been in remission?

I think it's normal to feel different after changes in medications, but if your symptoms start to return at all, definitely call your doctor.

Let us know how it goes!

Hey there Fran, thanks for joining!

Like the others, I'm curious what their reasons for having you wean off are? Because you're doing really well? Or because there were some abnormal results they're concerned about?

How are you feeling?
