As Remicade doesnt seemed to have done anything for my crohns my consultant has requested I be scoped 'both' ends, plus I have to take in a sample as they have introduced a new test.

The paperwork I've been sent states that this 'new' test can tell gastroenterologists whether someone has IBS or IBD. Apologies if this has been posted, but I forgot to search the forum first. It has a high degree of accuracy with 93% sensitivity and 96% specificity?!

Apparently this test can also determine whether or not you actually need to be scoped-which would be great as none of us like it.

Every scope I've had before I've had to use an enema but this time theyve sent me a laxative drink called moviprep and I can't eat from now til gone 7pm tomorrow??!!!

Do you have any other info on this test? I've never heard of it!

You are pretty lucky if you've never had to drink the preps before. They are all pretty nasty, I think the Miralax one is the most tolerable. My GI has never let me do enemas, says they don't clean you out high enough, and most of my disease is higher up, at my (former) terminal ileum.

Good luck with the scope and let us know how it goes!

thanks Sarah.

Well i had the 2 scopes yesterday (pouchoscopy and gastroscopy) after drinking the prep drink 'moviprep' which saw me not eat for 36hrs and feel absolutely dreadful and i could just about get out of bed to go to the hospital. :sign0085:

Anyway, i had the lovely camera inserted where it shouldnt and the report shows:
FINDINGS:
Anus - Normal
Pouch - Proctitis
Terminal Ileum - Normal.
Comments - Minor patchy inflammation in pouch. Ileum looks normal.

The gastor camera (throat):
Cricopharyngius - normal
oesophagus - normal
cardio-oesophagus - normal
stomach - normal
pylorus - normal
Duodenum first part - normal
Duodenum second part - normal

All in all, and reading between the lines, the infliximab has actually done some good, even though i dont feel any different from when before i started it?!

My pouchoscopy from 25th july this year before starting infliximab showed:
Anus - normal
Pouch - ulcer-benign
Terminal Ileum - Ileitis, ulcer-benign.
comments - significant pre pouch ilietis and ulceration that looks like crohns disease. marked distal pouchitis, remenant rectum looks quiescent.

It wasnt my usual consultant which i wasnt too happy about, but as far as the procedure goes, i dont remember it as i was sedated.:thumleft:

i'll give it til tomorrow before calling up my usual consultant to see if hes had a chance to read the report and see what he wants to do from here, as they were thinking of stopping the infliximab purely because i said i didnt feel any different, but if ive read the report correctly after yesterdays cameras, it seems IT IS doing something?!:thumright:

Handed in my sample for the new stool test so i'll post again once ive had the results.

MERRY XMAS TO EVERYONE!!

That is good news that the test is showing improvement, even though it's too bad that you aren't feeling the effects yet. Hopefully, it will keep working and you will start to feel the difference. Good luck with the rest of the tests!
