Surgery, Lodged Cam Pill, Med Advice, remission

Hello Crohnies, I am having a small bowel surgical resection soon and would like some encouragement and advice on meds/lifestyle/dietary changes that have kept you in remission for at least one year.

A little about me and what I've tried. Crohn's since a child. Had surgery in 2010 to remove 2 feet of small intestine as well as camera pill lodged in strictures-I had 8 strictures! Was immediately put on Remicade following surgery for 9 months which failed. Started SCD diet following surgery for 1.5 years-NEVER cheated on the diet and mentored by SCD experts who said I am part of the unlucky few that SCD did not help. I enjoyed 2 months of no pain post-surgery and normal blood levels. Remicade, SCD, and the surgery failed to keep Crohn's from returning. When the Crohn's returned, it came back with a vengeance as I have daily pain and need frequent (every 2 months) blood transfusions/iron infusions. Tried LDN and Xifaxan for a year-failed also-no impact at all. Now on Imuran and prednisone. Scheduled for surgery soon to YET again remove SECOND lodged camera pill in another stricture. Dr. swore the cam pill would pass this time but didn't-now he believes me when I say I am not well. His plan now is surgery to remove cam pill/stricture(s) and to add another biologic with the Imuran-possibly Cimzia or Humira. Been reading a lot about stem cell therapy and while it seems amazing and promising, it also seems scary as heck.
Please any advice on what has kept you in remission for over a year-the hope stories would help me a ton! Thanks in advance!

Hi Jmoon, welcome to the forum. It sounds like you've been through a lot and I'm sorry nobody has responded to your thread yet! I haven't had a resection myself so I can't be of a lot of help. I'm fortunate to be in remission and very lucky that all it took was Entocort to get me there. I'm trying to keep myself in remission with a combination of things - medication (Asacol) and supplements, getting enough sleep and watching my stress level, and most importantly in my opinion - exercise. I haven't had much luck with diets either but I find that I feel really great when I work out, my body responds well and I feel less depressed and less stressed. That's just what worked for me. I hope you can find something that works well for you. Best of luck with the surgery! Keep us posted on how it goes!
