Hi, I took Tylenol 3 for migraine 6 days ago. Tylenol 3 has 30mg codeine and 300 mg paracetamol. I've had troubles with codeine and even loperamide(which is very low dose) causes me gastrointestinal problems. This time the codeine hit me very bad. I have severe and frequent abdominal cramps for the past 6 days and I'm constipated. I'm taking magnesium citrate for constipation but I tought these problems would subside within 2-3 days. Have you ever had the same experience with codeine? Do you have any suggeston?
Thanks in advance.

If its gone on that long go to the local ER. You need to be seen by a doctor.
Hope you feel better soon.

Talked to my gi today. He said this can happen with codeine and try some natural laxatives.
Taking magnesium and dried apricot as laxative. Seems like helping slowly. Thanks for the reply.

I doubt the codeine was the problem. Not only was the dose quite low, but it wouldn't be causing you problems six days after taking it, unless it had caused some kind of blockage maybe?

I have had severe pain in reaction to codeine which happened within
minutes causing fainting and severe cramping.
The hospital pharmacist termed this an adverse reaction to codeine and not to allow its use.
A similar reaction occurs with morphine so I am limited to plain tylenol if necessary.
Mostly I have to cope with the pain and use hot water bottles and heating pads,
tylenol regular strength if I must
It can be difficult at times.
My GI has prescribed Mucillium one tablespoon two times daily
This helps very much with the constipation
Hugs
Trysha
