Hi Guys

I'm having terrible trouble sleeping. I'm get strange pain under shoulder blade to end of rib cage. Can't lie on my right side it constantly wakes me up at night. If I move the wrong way it's very painful. When I try to turn I have to pluck up the courage to do it as it feels like I'm dislocated (it's the only way I can explain it) when I'm up I'm fine it doesn't bother me at all.

I mentioned it to GP she stated it's probably a pulled muscle and told me to start using pain relieving gel (did that but didn't do anything) that was a while ago.

Seem to get a lot of other issues with crohns

Cellulitis both legs
Eye inflammation, virus, etc seems to be one thing after another really.

Any ideas?
she's a great doctor but obviously doesn't specialize in crohns, maybe someone else has had this.

Is this something else to add to the list?

sounds like tissue under shoulder blade may be inflamed. I recently had this as well. It can be very tight shoulders/muscles under there...I have found frequent stretching will help...ice the shoulder, if you can tolerate it without a chill, as the muscles may be inflamed. It has happened to me a few times...out of nowhere. Found my position at night in chair, leaning a certain way on a computer, etc. may be contributing.....we are doing something that gets the muscle under there swollen. I found hot baths/whirlpools felt great, stretching while in there....then icing it later. Took me weeks to get it better. Hope you find relief.

I got pain in my left side, pressure. Different positions were also an issue. The results of a lot of testing show my bones fusing. This is supposed to be part of my immune system crashing from constant infections. Boosting my immune system did give me relief within one week. If I continue to slide backwards a TNF medication is next.

Hi Mickey
Than you for your response, I've been treating this for over 8 months now and have been doing all that you mentioned (I should have mentioned that) :ghug:

Hi Duwardian
Can you explain more? this sounds scary and sounds like we've got the same symptoms. I've recently had alot of infections so my immune system isn't great, I was thinking mine might be related to gallbladder or liver that's why I was putting the question out there.

What tests did you have?

Wow, started with blood tests, urine tests. Ruled out infections and diseases aside from the known issues with the bowels. Then a contrast CT scan, checked for heart issues after that. The blood showed my IGG and IGA crashed. So next was the bone doctor MRI and more blood tests. Have a second one in 2 days. My lower back has been a bit sore, but mainly feet and hands also hurting. Doc is assuming the cause is how far gone the immune system is. The pain is creepy, like my spleen is too big, aching up into my chest at times, shoulder and arm, i sit up and it passes, but I get real dizzy. Blood pressure is fine. Bone doctor said the crashed immune system is causing my bones to fuse. So the plan is to get it boosted again with blood plasma. That usually makes me feel real bad for a day, then really good after.

Thank you so much for that info, it's much appreciated. I agree pain is creepy to say the least, like you the only relief I get is when I sit or just get up. Gonna go back to doc today and look for further investigation. :ghug:

Hi there,
I was doing well on Remicade infusions , inflammation was reduced until I became unwell. It began with hiccups and rib pain. I too found I had difficulty turning in bed as it hurt. I was at my best up, but the pain did not go away. Turned out, I had a lung infection and ended up in hospital. So see your doctor again as your immune system is compromised if on biologicals. I hope all is well for you and you feel better soon. Let me know how you are.

Hi Honey
Thank you for your response, def seems like I've got something lurking beneath.
I've made an emergency appointment for today. Wow seems like anything goes with this disease. seem to get everything in succession :yfaint: will keep you posted :ghug:

Hello, hope I have not overlooked if this had been mentioned. What about the gallbladder? Symptoms you describe could be an inflamed gallbladder/stones. High fat meals can trigger a upset/pain. A ultrasound can be a good starting test to see if there are stones/gallbladder issues.
Hope you get this sorted and feel better soon.

Ask your Dr. to check your gallbladder.
Peace to you.

Hi If*
Thank you for your response
I am so so glad that you mentioned it, it's what i was thinking could be the cause, either that or liver. I had an emergency appointment yesterday and doc thinks it may or not have something to do with gallbladder, he's organising an ultrasound. Also my blood pressure is all over the place, 2 weeks ago it was low now it's high. don't know whats going on. :ghug:

You have the classic symptoms of gallstones.

If you have symptoms, you most likely will have mild pain in the pit of your stomach or in the upper right part of your belly. Pain may spread to your right upper back or shoulder blade area. Sometimes the pain is more severe. It may be steady, or it may come and go. Or it may get worse when you eat.

Is it worse after eating for a few hours and then subsides? Problems with your gallbladder and gallstones are common with Crohns patients. I was admitted to A&E last year with obstructive jaundice caused by gallstones and later had my gallbladder surgically removed.

Hi JMC thank you for your response.

I have been thinking down those lines alright, the fact you have had same or similar symptoms confirms my suspicions. I have an ultrasound booked for 22nd feb.
I'm in so much pain when I lie down I think I'll be happy to get rid of it, How did you recover after having gallbladder removed?

I recovered very quickly, it is a fairly minor procedure which was done laparoscopically. I changed my diet for a while afterwards to avoid fatty food, but can now eat anything.

I had a similar pain that wrapped around from my shoulder blade to my side. Long story of back & forth to the doc and 2 ultrasounds later & a trip to the surgeon...they said I have costcochondritis which is inflammation of the cartilage that holds the rib cage together. It's very painful and can take quite some time to go away. Good luck & hope you get some answers soon!

cheers gmama
i just want a full nights sleep :ghug: ultrasound soon so hoping whatever this is gets noticed.
Just googled costcochondritis sounds pretty painful, I don't think that's what I've got. How long did it take you to get over it?

It has been 5 months & I still have it! It's crazy. There are different levels of severity, & I figured this is better than needing a surgery! Ha!
Keep us posted, & hope you get a clear cut answer soon

WOW! 5 MONTHS! I hope you get relief soon. and I'm sure hoping to get a 'clear cut answer' as you say. Anything goes with this disease that's whats so tough about it.
It just doesn't follow any rules, not one of us fit into a specific category.
I wish you all the best gmama, please keep me posted also :ghug:

Had ultrasound today guys, I am so surprised I don't have gallstones.
Could have sworn that was the case, back to docs tomorrow, to try and manage pain so that I can sleep.
For once it would be nice if docs could say...Oh we can fix that...Oh well back to the drawing board :(
