Hi everyone,

it has been a while since I posted as I have been feeling really good lately. However I started on Imuran 22 days ago and that appears to have changed.

Before I ask for advice I will give a brief summary of my history with Crohns to help you understand my situation:

* Small Bowel Resection 2002, cause of scarring that caused blockage not established.

* Dx Crohns in Feb 2006 after severe anemia (no other sypmtoms) Prednisone seems to bring it into check. Continue on Salofalk indefinetly.

* Flare in June 2010. Again anemia returns (no other symptoms) Infliximab infusions and oral Methotrexate commenced. Require 3 Iron infusions in 6 months.

* Dx Testicular Cancer November 2010. Surgery and Chemotherapy. Taken off Infliximab and MTX immediately. (Currently in remission from TC as of September 2011)

* Recommence Crohns treatment in March 2011 with new GI. Start with Salofalk again however irons continue to drop. Experience a mild, constant abdominal pain and for first time I notice mucous in my stools.

* July 2011, Prednisone cycle over 4 weeks and have never felt better. (wish I could safely stay on it).

* August/September 2011 after much discussion with my GI and Oncologist, I commence Imuran.

Now finally my issue. I managed to last 16 days on Imuran before the Nauseau, severe stomach pains and projectile vomiting became unbearable and landed me in hospital.

I have had mild abdmoinal pain consistently for 6 months. I have been able to do everything I wanted but the pain has been more an irritation because I know its there and wont go away. Imuran has made this very severe. Having come off the Imuran all the Nausea, vomiting etc seems to have stopped but the pain in my guts remains severe.

Is it possible that the Imuran has screwed up my gut in such a way that instead of having to live with a mild pain I will now have to live with this intense pain/ache??? I really hope this is temporary as I seem to be running out of treatment options given Infliximab is now out of the question and Imuran seems to have caused problems. The only thing that works is Pred and I am concerned about using that too much although the GI had previously suggested we go on 5mg a day for some time and see where that leads us.

Has anyone else experienced this severe abdominal pain reaction to Imuran?

Is it permanent?

Has anyone been on 5mg Pred for a long time without issues?

Does my story sound similar to anyone elses?

Really sorry to burdon the forum with such a lengthy story and questions but until my GI returns from holidays I really dont know who else to ask.

Kind regards

Stevo70.
