Wasn't really rude, insulting, etc. but fairly soon after Stephen was diagnosed and, with little experience, I had 'my panic' when we were away at his hockey tournament. On the way to his first game, he told me he had some pain and had been constipated for a day or two. Unfortunately, that was honestly the one and only out-of-town tournament where I didn't have my own car and my husband hadn't attended! So, I asked the other mom that I'd driven with to take me to the store to buy prune juice, yoghurts, etc. She did but, even though she knew Stephen had crohns, I could tell she was thinking 'omg, what an overprotective mom! So what if the kid hasn't gone a day or two?!?!' And just seemed a bit inconvenienced at my request.
It certainly didn't stop me from doing what I needed to do but did disappoint me that, as the mom of one of Stephen's oldest friends, she didn't understand my concern. I know it was simply due to a lack of crohn's knowledge, awareness but still...
Ironically, almost all of Stephen's friends have seen him insert the NG tube or have slept over when he has it inserted, etc., and all have been amazingly supportive but this woman's son is the only one who's said 'oh, that's gross' when watching Stephen insert the tube and, during sleepovers, sleeps in another room because the sound of the pump bothers him.
