Lately I've been experiencing a sharp pain from my rectum up through the left side of my intestines whenever I sit down. Has anyone experienced anything similar or know what it could be?
I've been in remission since December 2015, no blood, no diarrhea, stools have been somewhat "flat" but have been for a month or two.

Does it hurt during a BM too? Sounds like a fistula or abscess to me. I hope I'm wrong. Please consult your dr and let us know. Feel better soon!

No pain during BM and no diarrhea, just occasionally a flat shape. My dr hasn't told me about fistulas, strictures or abscesses at all, so I'm not sure what I should be looking for/symptoms. Google seems to be all over the place and none of my symptoms seem to match.

Google is mostly your worst enemy. All searches lead to cancer :D Just go by what your dr says. Thats what I did. Good luck!

Strictures can sometimes produce ribbon like stools. When my son had his, he really didn't have other symptoms until the stricture was really bad, but prior to it becoming bad, he had the ribbon like stools for a good six months before we started putting the pieces together. Unfortunately for him, it was too late and he had to have surgery.

Madhu has a good point about abscesses and fistulas too though. It's def worth getting checked out. Keep us posted...
