Short term (30 day) prednisone use and tappering

Has anyone here been on prednisone for a short 30 day duration? If so, how quick was your tapering?

Do you mean being on steroids for 30 days before you start the taper? Or starting the steroids and tapering off before 30 days are over?

My son was on 40mg for 3 weeks and then tapered 5mg every 5 days, he had no issues with this regime.

Most people taper 5mg every 5-7 days. Some doctors taper 10mg every 7 days but personally I think that is too large a drop on a weekly basis. There can also be differences when you get to the 10mg point. At this point, and particularly if you have been on a lengthy course, they will slow the taper to 2.5mgs a week or lengthen the dose cut to fortnightly or there can be other scenarios to ease you off the drug. Also a return of IBD symptoms or symptoms of prednisone dependency can change the course of treatment .

I asked because I wouldn't exactly call a 30 day course (+ taper) short! IIRC I took my course for two weeks, then tapered by five mg every two weeks. When I reached five mg I started taking it every other day for two more weeks. The taper went well until the very end, at which I started having extreme joint pain. We made the mistake of going back up and trying to taper more slowly, but looking back I feel like I should have "powered through" because it hurt just as much, if not more, the second time around.
