Sick after eating?

I was diagnosed in the eleventh grade (I'm in my second year of university now) and as medication I take Mesalamine Mezavant and iron supplements. Occasionally there will be a period of a few days to a week where I don't have much of an appetite, but recently what has been happening this week is that I will eat a little bit of something, or drink a little bit of something, and I'll feel so nauseous. It's almost like the sick feeling one would get waking up after a night of drinking. It's really embarrassing because I'll have to leave my friends in the dining hall and go home early because I'm afraid of vomiting. After a half hour or so I'm OK, but still can't eat. Thinking it was just fatigue, I had a long night's sleep but I still feel horrible. I'm not sure if this is linked to my Crohn's disease but since it's dietary it must be. This is a new symptom for me. I have no other conditions or diseases (other than my anemia).

Does this happen to anyone else? Is it normal? (currently drinking flat ginger ale and took a little extra medication today in the mean time).

Yes, more often than I would like. However, I have found some fresh ginger put in hot water and slowly sipping it hot or allow to cool to room temp helps. I drink that and plain water and nothing more. Keeps stomach calmer. Many times the nausea is a sign that I am a little constiptated; even it I have had movements. Iron can cause harder stools and constiptation, so that may be an issue. Drink more hot fluids, which may relax the belly and move things along, would be one suggestion. Feel better!

I get nauseas a lot as well I have fenergan and zofran to use as needed at home.

If it continues to get worst I would call the Dr. and let them know, you might need to be checked out.

Do you know the signs of an obstruction or blockage? This would be a worst case scenario but it is one of those things that happens to us crohnies and it must be caught early for the best outcome.

I hope that it passes soon and you can get back to not having being scared to eat.http://www.crohnsforum.com/wiki/Intestinal-Obstruction

For my son this happens when he is dehydrated. It sounds simple enough but your body needs fluids to digest and you will get horrible nauseated and vomited even after eating a little if you are dehydrated. Taking lots of meds only adds to this.

I would try sipping gatorade when nauseated and try to drink more fluids. Talk to your Dr. just in case something more is happening. If you also have pain while nauseated or vomiting then blockage should certainly be considered.

So, do you notice if similar things you're eating are causing this? Junk food, fruit, cooked, raw, chocolate, meat, wheat...? It may have nothing to do with food, but it might be related.

I also agree that hydration is important. Do you have diarrhea? Try drinking larger amounts between meals, plenty of water and less sugary stuff or caffeine.

Anyway, this used to happen to me a lot. Might indicate a stricture. Mine would close up and I would end up vomiting before I felt better. Fasting helps a bit, but keep drinking water with electrolytes etc. Let your doc know so it can be checked out.
