Hi all!

I was originally diagnosed with UC last July after a colonoscopy at age 20. I would wake up, be extremely sick, go to the bathroom have blood in my stools and feel better for awhile-sometimes all day, sometimes 10 minutes-and then have the same problems. I was put on Apriso and Canasas and they seemed to be working until the middle of November, when I (studying abroad in Italy, and no way to get home to see my doctor) became very ill again. This time I would be okay, but then out of the blue get VERY VERY nauseous, and VERY VERY dizzy, feel like I was going to either throw up or pass out (neither which I ever did). Sometimes I would go to the bathroom, have a bm and then be fine, other times I am paralyzed in bed because I can not move in fear of loosing consiousness. When I came home, the issues still persisted. I saw my GI who is convinced it is not the Crohn's but he sent me for an ultra sound (negative) and CT scan, which showed some thickening of my lower intestines. He told me not to worry about that (which I find weird) and to see other doctors about my symptoms. I have been to my regular doctor, the emergency room and another doctor who are all baffled by what is happening and I'm scheduled to see a neurologist.

I guess what I'm saying is that I don't know if what's happening to me is the Crohns or if it's something else. I Hope someone has had these issues and could explain what's going on & how I can stop it!! I'm in college and can't keep getting sick like this! Please help! :sign0085:

Hiya kd
and welcome

I'm not surprised you're confused, I would be too if a GI told me that thickening in the intestines is nowt to worry about!
Apriso is for UC, but if it's Crohn's in the small bowel then you might need something to maintain for that. I know some people on here have had UC (colon) and go on to develop Crohn's in small intestines.
I would get a 2nd opinion, see a specialist in IBD, there's a small chance that your thickening might turn into narrowing or obstruction, hence the feeling of wanting to throw up. Thickening will slow the bowel down and in time will scar if left untreated.
Hope you get something sorted, see your GP for a referral somewhere else and ask for a barium xray
Lotsa luv

Hiya well 2 years ago I was very sick and when I got diagnosed I had about 1ft of very damaged tissue. It all developed so quickly and I was just poorly and awful colour freezing and tired. Long story short but I developed an abscess and perforation and my main symptom was extreme dizziness and I mean extreme. I'm not one to panic but the dizziness just knocked me for 6. Get yourself checked out you shouldn't be that unwell u need to get it under control. I have since had surgery and generally feel good. I still get very mild dizziness but nothing compared to before. I hope you get some relief soon.

Agreed with all of the above.

I'd also strongly suggest getting your vitamin B12 and folate levels checked. While it's not common to be deficient in those with UC, I think there's cause to suspect Crohn's Disease at this point at which point those ARE common deficiencies and can cause the symptoms you speak of.

Hi there and welcome to the forum. Definetly ask for a referral to a new GI, I cannot believe you were told that a thickening of the bowel was nothing to worry about! Hope things can be sorted quickly for you hun
