Skin tags appearing after LIFT procedure?

Hello all! My daughter had her seton removed two weeks ago as her colorectal surgeon performed a LIFT procedure. It went really well, the doctor was pleased...

....fast forward to about a week after surgery and I get the "mom, can you look at this". (I'm getting to HATE that question with these awful Crohn's manifestations) and I see this little skin tag on her bum very close to the incision the doctor made. We called the doctor and she said this could happen in Crohn's patients -- not to remove it, no big deal.

Lyss (my daughter) went on vacation with friends yesterday and called today to say another one had formed...

What the heck is going on? Is it due to the surgery? It's like we had the seton removed, the LIFT done, and now skin tags? She is freaked out after having barely one good week of feeling "normal" with the seton removal...

Any advice or similar situation?

As always, many thanks.

Maria

I have an anal skin tag. Have for years. It doesn't really bother me at all and is just there. Sometimes it may get a bit irritated if I have a lot of D but I kind of liken it to a freckle in that they appear at random and you can see them but they don't really bother and you kind of ignore them unless they become a big funky looking mole. In other words - I would say leave it be and if there are problems (like irritation, bleeding, etc.) then do something but there isn't really a bit worry if not!

I have several anal skin tags, they really bothered me when I had my setons in and got a new one while I had the setons in, but otherwise they are not a bother except with a lot of D like the poster above.

Hi Lovelyss and sorry to hear you're daughter is going through this. IBD can be pretty relentless :-( You could also post your question over on our sub-forum as there are members there who have had the LIFT procedure.

Thanks so much...I'm still new to navigating this wonderful site. Is the subforum called LIFT procedure?

Thanks again.

Oops, sorry, you're here in our subforum already - or maybe someone moved the post here. Anyway, you're in the right place :) Things are usually a little quiet on the forum at the weekends, but I'm sure someone who's had the procedure and might be able to advise will come along.
Skin tags, unfortunately, are fairly common in Crohn's sufferers - I have a couple of small ones myself :-( Have you spoken to your daughter's doctors about them?
