Skipping SCD intro?

Hi,

I am thinking of trying the SCD diet. I need to order the book and read it etc. I was thinking that I would only eat the SCD safe foods in the meantime.

Would there be any benefit to that? Could the diet work anyway?

I am new to all this so...

Thanks!

I've only read part of the book but the intro diet is really the foundation. If you buy into SCD, you kind I'd have to buy into the intro for the die-off part.
I honestly think if SCD is to be beneficial for you in the long run, adopting the diet as a whole should be beneficial too but that's just my opinion.

Yeah, thought so. I thought I'd just do the diet anyway while I am waiting to get the book. That way i'd get used to the ok/naughty foods and recipes.

I used to kinda low carb and be grain and potato (etc) free anyway, so the diet is not so new. Oddly, my CD "started" when I quit kinda low carbing.

Makes me wonder...

The book suggests that the initial stages are to stop diarrhea. We skipped the initial stage because our daughter never had diarrhea, and have had a huge huge huge turnaround in her Crohn's symptoms.

There were probably some things you were eating while "low carbing" that would not be allowed on SCD. In any case, you will have an easier transition than many, if you are accustomed to doing without bread and potatoes and pasta!

That's interesting. I've been only eating from the legal foods the past couple of days and feel a lot better.

I don't really have diarrhea either. It's mostly pains, cramps, bloating and every few days I go to the bathroom way more than normal in the morning and it's quite urgent. I have no idea what is the correct definition of diarrhea though.

I only did the intro for a couple of days because I don't like jelly, couldn't tolerate red meat when I was flaring and couldn't source the curd cheese in the UK, so it didn't leave me much to eat. The diet still gave me a lot of relief from symptoms.

Well, anyone can low-carb, and there are various quality lists of foods out there for SCD, plus there's individual tolerance to consider. The advantage of the book is you get her explanation of what is causing this. The difference between the types of starches, which actually sounds a bit like Monash Univeristy's FODMAPs, but not exactly. You also get the recipes which are far superior in my view from the common low carb recipes out there. You might recognize them as similar, but they don't include high fiber, irritating ingredients like coconut flour or flax meal.

I think her book was pivotal for me, as far as being able to really cook for myself and know what would set off my symptoms ahead of time. Sorry if I sound like a commercial.
