Small Bowel Follow Through. Restults transalate.

I had my 2nd sbft and I can't understand the results. Can someone help me understand what is going on and what might need to be done.

Results
The preliminary film revealed no dilatataion of larger or small bowel.
The patient swallowed the barium and multiple small bowel films are
obtained. Barium is noted in the colon on the 1 hour and 45 minute
film. There is no filling defect or obstruction in the small bowel.
Compared with the prior examination of 05/19/2005. There is
suggestion of some effacement of mucosa of the distal small bowel.
There is also suggestion of areas of narrowing in the distal small
bowel, but no obvious obstruction. Fluoroscopic spot films of the
ileocecal region are also obtained. The cecum is located low in the
pelvis on the right side.

Impression:
There is suggestion of effacement of the mucosa of the distal small
bowel, With questionable areas of narrowing, suspicious for Chron's
diseases. No obvisous obstruction.

Welcome to the forum og style. I will let you know first that any and all comments on what the results say are only suggestions or opinions, and are not being told by medical practitioners. Therefore any interpretation is likely to be somewhat off, since we do not fully know what the usage of the words will be in the context of your situation.

My opinion (or in other words my guess) is that the results showed there was no enlargement of the small or large bowel. It took 1 and 3/4 hours for the barium to enter the colon (I do not know what an average time would be). It seems like the results are more favourable than they were during the small bowel follow through that you had in 2005. There is no longer any obstructions. It seems like there is some narrowing in the most inner linning of the small bowel. Therefore, while it seems like the results are better than those of 2005, there is still some evidence that the Crohn's is active in a mild manner.

Thanks for the reply. The test I had done in 05 showed no problems. Here is the notes from the 05 test this is also my 1st test.

The preliminary fils revealed no dilatation of large or small bowel. Patient swalled the barium and multiple small
bowel films are obtained. Transit time of the small bowel is normal. Bariun is noted in the colon on the 3 hour and 15
minute film and subsequent films. Cecum is located low in the pelvis on the right side. Mucosal pattern of the small bowel
is normal. No evidence of segmental narrowing or dilatation of the small bowel. No filling defect or diverticulum.
Floroscopic spot films of the ileocecal region revealed no obvious abnormality.

Impression:
Normal small bowel series.

from what i got from the 07 test, you just have minor inflammation in the illeum

Ok heres my interpretation - The cecum or caecum (from the Latin caecus meaning blind) is a pouch connected to the ascending colon of the large intestine and the ileum. It is separated from the ileum by the ileocecal valve (ICV) or Bauhin's valve, and is considered to be the beginning of the large intestine. It is also separated from the colon by the cecocolic junction. This section is low in your pelvis. There seems to be some thinning of the mucous in your small bowel, with possible narrowing but no blockage

Thanks for all the help. I guess that I should have given my background info. In Oct 2004 I got sick all the sudden. Nasia, stomach problems & back pain. I have been off work this whole time. It took 6 months to find bleeding alcurs an what looked like Chrons. I have had 3 MRI's and the last one showed Sacaralitious. My gi dr left so I had to switch to his parters. I have had that dr for about 1 year and this is the first test he has done. He is going to do a scope next month. As for this test what can I expect to happen. My dr still has not contacted me on it.

Hi. From what I can gather, you have obvious changes consistant with crohn's since your last x-ray exam. Effacement means thinning, possibly due to damage of the villae and the narrowing could be due to scar tissue from the disease. Sounds like you need some meds to treat crohn's, preferably sooner than later. I would call your doc and not wait until your scope. Those narrowings can lead to obstruction if the disease is left untreated. Good luck.

Thanks again for the reply. I expect my GI dr to call monday. I have tried every type of med for Chrons. I am currently taking Asacol, Prednasone & Humara. I have also taken Remicade for about 1.5 years.
