Hi there

Just ordered a blender recently because ive heard certain fruit/veg smoothies can help with inflammation of the colon. Does anyone know of any recipies that may help?

Thanks

Nicky

lol a know it sounds amazing, a basically just bought it because i love smoothies and using my condition as an excuse ;)

Little pointer. Instead of using ice, freeze slices of bananas. It will thicken and chill your smoothie and there will be less filler ingredients and more nutrients :)

I like to make various banana and berry smoothies with vanilla almond or soy milk. I will add a little greek yogurt or protein powder and sometimes honey depending on how I want the smoothie to taste.

Good luck!

thanks alot, ive never actually froze a banana before but it sounds quality. im not great with milk so ill prob use a bit of almond milk or just normal lactose free.

is there any fruits or vegetables i should avoid because of my colitis?

Thanks

I would suggest to put even the tiniest amount of water in at the beginning, and I'm talking like 2 spoonful because it gets everything blending faster, but as far as recipes I pretty just throw in whatever I have. I really like the taste of blackberries in my smoothies, I usually add blueberries, or even any fruit. I have yet to make a smoothie I didn't like.

I personally find it's better to make fruit smoothies over vegetables because of the texture but you can easily throw vegetables in the blender and then strain them so you're not getting all the pulpy stuff from things like carrots. I've also been using a lot of mint leaves in my smoothies and it's delicious and super good for you!

Thanks alot for all your ideas KWalker. I just want to be able to get the goodness off all the veg and fruit without actually eating it because of the texture of apples for example, my stomach has trouble digesting it.

Plus they taste brilliant lol

lol yes they do. I even add almonds and peanut butter in mine sometimes to add calories. I get the occasional chunk of almond that didn't catch the blades but it's not like it tastes bad or anything. I'm surprised nobody has told you to put ginger root in there because it's really good for you and ridiculously cheap but if you do use it, don't use a lot. I did the whole "If I use more, it will be so much healthier" and it is, but it turns your smoothie from tasting fruity to spicy-like. It wasn't the greatest. I felt like I needed water at the same time.

Omg i actually want one just now. Im going to buy loads of fruit and vegetables and ginger etc. Im not actually trying to put calories on, i could do with loosing a pound or 2. im mainly doing it because i dont eat enough good things and i think this sounds like the tastiest way to get the goodness back into my body.

Is there any foods i should avoid putting into the smoothie?

Thanks

I think pretty much anything is okay as long as you slice/peel it. I peel my lime/lemon, oranges, etc before putting them in. Obviously cut the apple/peaches off the core, etc. I keep the skins on foods like that though. Peanut butter is nice sometimes too but don't go overboard or else you might as well just put a straw in the jar of peanut butter lol.

When doing berries the seeds often don't break down but I don't mind that. If you don't want that you can just strain it before putting it in your glass/bottle. I would suggest limiting oranges to 1/smoothie unless you plan to strain or you really like pulp because it can be very pulpy. The first smoothie I ever made was 2 oranges, 1 lime, and 1 lemon. It was good, but I probably could have just used a spoon because it was so pulpy.

I usually just use what's on sale. I don't know what fruits are like where you are, but some get ridiculously expensive depending on the season. Clementines for example get stupid expensive here in the winter, but go into almost every smoothie in the summer because they get so cheap.
