My little penquin is my Crohn's angel and gave me all sorts of great advice as we near my son's first remicade/methotrexate/steroid treatment next week.

She recommended that he eat during his treatments to help with bp and blood sugar - what snacks to all of you bring to your remicade appointments?

My infusions are normally scheduled for lunchtime (1230) - I either eat right before, or pick up lunch on the way in and eat there....depending on what pre-meds are given, your son may or may not even want to eat...may take a nap etc.....

I do know that the BP can drop some with the infusion, never heard about blood sugar though.

My daughter's gets them done a Children's Hospital and they have snacks for the kids - usually cookies, juice and pretzels. Make sure your son isn't dehydrated that day, because it's harder to find a vein if he is.

My son's infusions were in his GI's IV lab. So the nurses provided some snacks and drinks. C always packed a snack pack too with some of what he liked.

Also since the lab had flat screen/DVD he could bring movies. If more than one kid brought a movie then they voted. C also made sure he brought ear phones with his laptop/ipad etc so that if he chose to watch something other than the movie they were watching the sound wouldn't interfere. The lab also had Xbox and Wii consoles with games and kids would bring their own games to play on those with others as well.
