Some questions about Entocort

I started Entocort on Feb. 6th (9mg/day) after seeing my GI doc for the first time. He wanted to make sure any extra inflammation was taken care of. Anyway...he said he only wanted me on Entocort temporarily and hopes I never have to take them again. I was thinking I'd just be taking them until the colonoscopy was done, but the prescription I got had 30 days worth of pills in it. I'm getting the colonoscopy the 23rd, so that still leaves me 12 days left of pills.

So, is it possible my doc just gave me extra since it wasn't clear how soon I was going to get the procedure done? Or will I probably just finish off the prescription and then be done with them? Also, do you have to taper off of Entocort like Prednisone? I've seen/read a lot of people mention tapering off of Pred, but haven't seen anything on doing the same with Entocort.

I always tapered off entocort. It can cause adrenal insuffciency like Prednisone....Make sure you let him know you are almost out. He may want you to continue depending on what the scope shows....I hope the colonoscopy goes good for you.:)

Thanks!

Hmm, that's what I figured... I'll make sure to ask him about it the day of my colonoscopy. I should have sufficient time to put in a new Rx if need be. I already asked my husband to ask and/or remind me during recovery in case I'm still wonky from the sedation. :lol2:

I hope it goes well too and that they can get the scope far enough to see what they need to. How long does it usually take to get back biopsy results?

You should taper... I had mine stopped by a numptie at the hospital. I had adrenal shock, not severe but enough to make me feel really rotten.

This is what my handbook says....Entocort may be stopped after 2 weeks of 6mg dosage. I always tappered down to 3mg for a week, them every other day for few days...That is how the GI told me to do it.

Also...should I still take Entocort the morning before my colonoscopy or wait to take it after the procedure is done?

Wait until afterwards.

It's probable enough for both the course you need before the colonoscopy and to taper off. I always tapered off Entocort, and be sure you if you stay on it very long to get a bone density scan.
