Hey guys how's everything been.

Two weeks ago I told ya'll about going to the ER and found out I had an abscess. Later that week I went to a colo/rectal surgeon and he told me I had no abscess but was extremely inflammed in the area and told me to continue on my seven days of flagyl and cipro, which has never helped me. I was okay for most of the week until Thursday. I went to a new GI and he poked and prodded at my butt and to my asking didn't give me a rectal exam, my rectum is extremely inflammed and they can't even get a pinky up there anyway so there is no point in trying, and he agreed with me. He put me on an enema, a suppository(I can't believe I have to shove a bullet made of lotion up my butt), and an anti-biotic called alivia. My ER doc gave me some pain meds but I never filled them until this weekend so I'm also taking those. I can't sit down without being in a lot of pain or stand up. I can basically only lie down without being in much pain and even that sometimes is a crap shoot. I also haven't been able to get to sleep at night even with the pain meds.

The worst thing is I have a math placement test tomorrow at 9:30am and I don't know how I'm going to take it. This is my last chance to be able to take it before I submit for classes next Monday so if I don't take it tomorrow then I will be taking a Math class that i don't get any credit for because I'm not good at SAT type tests.

On the good side. After my last escipade with my GI my GI in Connecticut agreed to let me go there to get a CAT scan and bloodwork and if that comes up showing me without an abscess I will be able to get Remicade later in the week. That should be next week sometime. I have to wait for my insurance because they discontinued insuring me because they never mailed me a bill.

Also this Friday I turn 19 and may be able to get a job with insurance working for t-mobile and they will pay for uni if I get straight A's or if I get C's or B's they will give me money towards uni. HopefullY I get the job and everything works.

I hope this is at least semi clear I'm a bit foggy from the pain meds.

Update I was able to go to my placement test but did really bad. I guess I have more math ahead of me.):

Hey guys tonight at 7 I'm going to get an abscess drained under anesthesia and I'm also impacted so they may go fix that as well. Best of luck to you guys

Also the weird thing is that my white blood cell counts are normal. I don't know how I have an abscess with a normal white blood cell count and no fever or anything. Ah mysteries of Crohn's I guess.

The normal WBC is kind of weird.

I hope you are taking some probiotics. Those antibiotics are hard on good bacteria also.

Let us know how the CT scan goes.

Dan

Hope things go well for you Jeff. I'm glad to hear you're going to go CT to get well a CT and hopefully some Remi. I thought you had mentioned you might be covered for awhile. And good vibes on their way for the T-Mo job :)

Hey guys I'm in the hospital right now. I had and abscess drained last night and my rectum was fully closed so they opened it up. Then this afternoon I went home and had a fever of 103.7 so I had to come back to the hospital and I have to stay overnight. I have had a huge headache since this afternoon and my nurse was practically yelling to me while asking the million stupid questions.

Thanks guys for the support. It sucks spending my bday in the hospital.

aw jeff, this is one birthday you wont forget :(

wishing you special birthday wishes, and quick healing from this pain in the bum! get better soon.

Hey guys, today my colorectal surgeon told me I look good to go home but my GI has to let me out. My GI yesterday didn't come in until 7 last night. I want to leave this place and eat some cake. I have to say that the hospital food here has got to be the worst I have had. In Connecticut I went to the childrens center and they had pretty good food as well as nice rooms. My room is disgusting and the air conditioner has to be pried on to turn on and when it comes on becomes too cold too fast.

All I know is I WANT TO GET OUT OF HERE. I think they're holding me hostage because my pee is a little dark. I haven't been drinking as much water as I should, especially yesterday but in my defense I didn't sleep much the past few nights and they gave me nausea medicine that put me out till about 5 at night. How the heck am I supposed to drink water when I'm asleep. I have no problems with my kidney's. I need Bob Kelso from Scrubs to tell them that I'm not bleeding and I don't have a fever so I should just get the hell out of here.

On a side note, they are remodelling my floor and the painters were painting my door this morning and I felt like yelling, "They are keeping me hostage, save me." But I didn't think that would go over too well. Now I think I should just keep pinching my IV cable to cause it to eclude, or whatever they say, and annoy the nurses.lol

Sorry to hear they are keeping you hostage in there, and over your birthday too.. keep us posted on your escape plans.. & hope you feel better soon!

Get someone to bake you a cake with a shovel inside it so you can tunnel your way to freedom...

But, if they are worried about you being a little dehydrated, pinching the IV will only make matters worse.

Yeah Jeff dont go playing with yer iv it will keep you in longer! Hope you escape soon. Have just been catching up and you certainly have had a rough time.

Sending leprechaun hugs your way.

Hey guys just got out a little while ago. Woo hoo I can't believe I'm finally out. I finally have my freedom back and in a half hour or so I will be totally free of my hospital pains. I have one piece of tape on my arm thats keeping pressure on the IV site. Anyways I'm finally out and when my dad gets home I can finally have my birthday. Thanks for the support guys

cool that you were able to delay any celebrations, the real birthday's just a date, the occassion can be held any time.

Oh guys I had a couple of questions for you guys.

Have any of you had your rectum completely closed. I have just gotten it open again and I have to say it is so strange to have an almost normal bm. It hurts like heck right now but hopefully that soon goes away.

Also, while in the hospital have you guys had your blood drawn from your IV or taken pricks everyday for your bloodwork. When I was in Children's Medical in CT I had my blood test samples drawn from my IV but in Huntsville they say it could cause infection so they have to prick you every day. I think it was just a form of entertainment. They waited for me to fall asleep after my 5 in the morning weighing and steriod infusion and then would come in a prick me. Anyways I'm just happy it's over.

I always had them take blood seperately from IV's, never from the IV, from an independent prick (that sounded odd).

Hi Jeff,

Glad you made it home to have some nice celebrations with your family for your birthday.

They are right about having independant "stabs" for taking blood and the risk of infection with your iv site. They should only ever take blood from your iv site the minute it is put in as it is like having a clean stab and at least then its only once right on admission. The rest should be seperate stabs.

Hope that helps even though its not fun at all! I remember last summer I ended up with 10 new venflons in 14 days as they kept blocking. Between finding new sites to stick the iv and the daily stabs and being on pred I ended up in tears most days. What a baby! Was black and blue when I left so glad you made it home!

Sorry cant comment on the closure as never had it happen.

Cool I was just wanting to know which one was right or if both were acceptable. The funny thing is that I had this exact thing done in January and they took blood samples from my IV and I never got and infection. This time I had an infection.

really happy to hear you're home without having to do the naked streak :D

yep, i've also always had blood samples taken from new sites each time, which when i've been dehydrated has been a real pain, literally. they had to use the veins in my feet once :(

good luck with your recovery Jeff, and have a great birthday celebration!

Yeah when they put in my first IV I hadn't had water for about 17 hours because I was sleeping and I ahd surgery later in the day. It wasn't that bad or anything I just never heard of that or if it was a little over cautious. I do have about 5 sticks in my left arm, one hole was used twice during my stay. My right arm also has a bunch of sticks from not getting the IV in right.

Ooh that couldn't have felt good. Now I have that eek feeling in my right wrist right now like it's appening to me but I've never had it happen so i don't know the feeling.

During remicade they put an IV in and before they could do anything I accidentally tightened my fist and shot blood clear across the room.lol They were quite freaked about that one.

Hi Jeff!
Sorry I missed your birthday....but it's never too late to celebrate!!

Last fall when I had my surgery, they drew blood, not from my IV, twice a day. Also, every morning at 5:30am they gave me a shot in my stomach, that supposedly prevented blood clots. What a way to wake up each day. And I was there for seven days.

Although, one time, when they pricked me, I didn't feel anything. That's when I knew I was probably pushing the button on my morphine drip a little too often.

Also, for some reason the hospital decided to bill me separately for each blood test/injection/treatment separately, so when I got home I had to write about 40 checks to cover the whole operation.

Didn't have each blood draw in the hospital seperate, but did write about 40 checks per hospital stay. It's so horrific of a system. It's like if I went to the grocery store and had Dean's Foods, Frito Lay, Kelloggs, Quaker Oats, Kraft, Campbells, etc........all bill me when I checked out, so that I ran my credit card through 300 times.....insanity.

Bllod taken through the IV would have been a dream but alas, always taken out with new pricks - I think I had over 100 with the surgery - lost count - still bruised too.
Saw your other post about the BM and cake - Happy belated birthday and glad things are improving.
:>)
